Thought some of you might like my latest addition to the restoration que.
Its a 1930s Atlas / Gottlieb Grip tester I'm very excited about this one it needs a complete restore and there is zero reason not to which is great the last few old girls I picked up to restore were in to good original condition to restore.

That will look fantastic all done up mate! Where on earth do you dig these items up from? You should have your own TV show!! ^^^
-
Very cool.
Imagine if you guys combined all your stuff and had a travelling coin operated museum. It would be awesome.
-
I think I might open my shed up as a coin op museum I have to much stuff to travel with lol
-
Well what does it do Daniel ? !@#
Looks interesting.
-
You know you don't really want it.. you only bought it to stop me from having it. That's twice you've done that and yes, im keeping a detailed log!
-
That's way cool
-
Nice pickup, Daniel. Are you still working at Bumper ATM?
-
Nice mate, I bid on that also LOL
-
Hey Millsy
You put your penny in and squeeze the handle the harder you squeeze it the higher the gauge goes.
There is a bell that if you reach a certain strength it rings a bell.
There is a cool video on you tube with a restored one its beautiful
-
That is awesome mate, looks like the ones in the penny arcade at echuca
-
It'd be no match for my wankers grip, i'd be ringing the bell in seconds lolololol ;-)
-
Small update on this one. All parts have been stripped back to individual pieces after being soaked in wd40 was just a massive pile of rust inside.
The handles and coin entry have been sent of to the chrome platers and the red housing is being painted by Stewy a local panel beater as a payment for a pin repair. I wanted to do it myself but when he offered I figured that way it might actually get painted lol
-
looking forward to seeing this old piece restored $#$
-
Looking forward to seeing this one restored Daniel ^^^ Would be great if you could get it working , surrely couldn't be many left in the world in working condition
-
Yes couldn't be to many left.
Roger from crow river trading sells the decals and was nice enough to modify them from 1 cent to 1 penny to suit my Aussie coin entry which was great.
Ill dig them out and post a photo I can't wait to stick them to the freshly painted case

Nice work DDs and thanks for the link to crow river trading , they have a great site for many things to do with Arcade and slot machines. Dose the machine take aussie 1 cent coins?
-
My machine takes Aussie pennies
-
A huge huge thank you to Eltimbo and Stewie I got my freshly painted casing and rechromed handle and coin insert back today was to nervous to hand my irreplaceable parts to someone i don't know so Tim sent them to his regular chrome plater everything came back and looks great. And Stewart has done an amazing job respraying the casing I have him some basic instructions I want it to loo like something from 1930 and the color he chose POW COULDNT have chosen a better red....

Only Daniel could better the effort on the Grip Tester. I expect nothing less !

Looks great Daniel have you seen this one on Ebay?

Thanks Faza no I don't even look on ebay anymore lol. But I'm glad you pointed it out as my back door was missing so I can copy that one.
Exactly the same as mine I think atlas and gottlieb are the same people I've seen a few of the same machine with different branding

Looks fantastic Daniel, very nice work. @@*
-
ok I have to know.. how do you get rid of all that rust??
-
Lots and lots of wd40'and elbow grease mate.
Wire brush in my angle grinder is usually my first step once I get as much off each piece I coat it with ranex rust converter then hit it with a coat of silver rust kill paint ;)
-
I would have thought nothing less than a sand blaster would get rid of that mess! well done mate, really showing some awesome skills. I would kill for that ability :lol
-
Now that you mention it I did sandblast some of the parts aswell
-
and some hammertone paint! the before and after shot is unbelievable! The restores I see on this site always impress!

-
The before and after shots are simply amazing! Nice work.

Amazing work mate. Always good to see before and after shots to give people a real indication of the work that goes into it as well as the true transformation of the piece.
