F-14 Tomcat - Cabinet Decals
« on: April 30, 2012, 09:08:03 PM »
A little bit of news for those whose F-14 Tomcat's cabinets are worn and damaged.

This machine is a Steve Ritchie designed game and liked by many which sold over 14500 units. The surprising thing is that all the cabinets graphics were screen printed. TUF-427 put the call out for some help late last year and I offered to help not aware of the amount of work required but I think they came pretty good.

I was listening to a recent Spooky podcast and Charlie was interviewing Rick from Planetary Pinball and he stated that he is open to artwork etc. So I thought well instead of burying the artwork as I can't just go out and screen print 10 units and sell them thought I may as well offer to Rick for a bit of a swap as a payment. In short he was happy with the graphics with the intention of doing decals one day helping many people out there that need a set. We cut a deal with a full set of Creature ramps with flaps and decals, which I was happy as it will help the upcoming restoration that I am gearing up for.

So for those needing some decals, keep your eyes on the lookout for decals being released - not sure when but at least thay have the graphics to make it possible.

Hence why this is in the mods section as traditionally the cabinets were screen printed but now these will be available one day in the future as vinyl decals.

Swinks - were they screenprinted on vinyl on the cabs or stencils sprayed on?

I always thought F14's were stencils..

I have only been told they were screened printed so I am trusting others - would be a complex stencil I would imagine.

here is a screen shot of the design.

And sorry please do not ask for a copy of the art file as I have an agreement with Planetary Pinball - if you do ask the answer will be no.

swinks is there any chance Rick will allow you to print and sells these and other sets here in Australia? It would save us all on shipping costs, he'd still get his cut and you'd make money too.  Hopefully its something worth persuing for the Aussie/NZ collectors?  I know I'd buy a set.

It is a thought but I do not have access to this and would prefer to leave it to the guys who know what they doing (print industry guys) I know he had his artist check it a few weeks ago and were going to do a print check so at the moment will leave it with him.

I just thought better to share it with him and many others rather than buried in my computer never to be seen / used.

Good on you swinks for going about this the right way where everyone can get fair access to product.

And you got compensated for your time and effort as well.  ^^^

Rick at PP is a good guy to deal with and has stated from the get go when he bought the licensing that he is more than willing to work with people to get product onto the market.

I just heard back from Rick and Planetary Pinball are releasing a batch of decals in the next week themselves and through their distributors and they are printing in-house.
