Title: ?? Best Home Collection u have ever seen in Australia ??
Post by: Caveoftreasures on January 19, 2015, 06:11:44 PM
Something different.

What's the best Home Pinball Collection u have seen in Australia ??
Can be in person or via photos or a video. You can nominate your own collection if u want.
It doesn't have to be the biggest collection to be your nomination. It could just be someone who has the nicest 6 pinnys you have seen or like. Big collection or small collection , you nominate !

Share photos or videos or your visit story !

Since I am a big Stern fan, there's a member on AP called Scott ?? Who has a lot of BNIB Stern pinnys. But I only saw the collection by photos and there appeared to be apx 12 or more nice Sterns.

Then there is Petes(Gorgar) collection of nice new Sterns as well.
I am a fan of all things DMD so these two members machines stuck out to me.
I think the first member with the big Stern collections name Was Scott. ??I bought a ACDC neon topper from him for my ACDC machine so I hope I got the members names correct ? If not, I have to rethink the name?

I would love to play some Zac's very hard to find them out and about.

Also need to see Dan's shed one day hopefully.

Single best collection I have honestly seen was Nino's workshop! I know it is not technically a collection but they are all his machines aren't they?

Walking through his workshop was nothing short of Nirvana..... *%*

I haven't seen hardly any large home collections. As far as commercial guys go, Nino's for sheer scale. Rob at BCW has a large collection in mostly very very nice condition machines from a good spectrum of era's.

Would love to see a few pics of your collection cavey if you got any shots.

I have two Zaccaria's in the workshop - Devil Rider's and Farfalla. Both the best Gen 2 Zaccarias in my opinion. Pop in for a game a game or two !

I think my personal collection is just about where I want it to be. But aside from Paragon and Fireball, none are really up to standard. Good news is - the upstairs mezzanine will be converted into a "mancave" to house my personal collection as I restore them - available for anyone to play !

I think Michael Shalhoub or Alan Tate have the best collections. Alan Tate is rumored to have more than 1000 games.

Dan's collection is simply outstanding. Worth the trip alone (and his hospitality).

I've been lucky over the last 12 months to see and play some awesome collections Bally Williams Sterns it's amazing how many games are out there in people's houses :) plus there's alot of guys not on any forums so there must 1000's of games in personal collections. I've also seen Dans setup man it's incredible an absolute museum of coin op games. Zaccaria can't say I've ever seen one in the flesh let alone played one., from what I've read they where unreliable and hard to repair am I right?

Your a Stern fan? Never would have guessed.
Are you looking for the best collections or the best Stern collections?

Thread title suggests best collection.

No. Not just new Sterns, any pinball machine. I don't have the best NIB Stern collection on here. Others do.
I was just saying that those two collections stuck out to me cause Sterns are my current flavour of the month, but I want other people's choices of what they think the best pinball collections are !

No. Looking for any personal pinball collection. Doesn't have to be Stern or DMD or any manufacturer.
Just tell us your personal experiences of seeing a pinball collection that you have seen or really liked.
Interested in the story of u walking in and the first words you thought of etc.
Hoping u tell us about something u have seen versus heard about !

I will find a thread that had Apx 40 or more DMD machines set up at the time for you. Collection has grown since then but it will show most of the DMD machines I think. It won't have any of the new Sterns in it but I can take some photos of them later if required.

Really hoping for other people's photos or stories of what collections they saw and their thoughts.

Zaccaria's are only "difficult" to repair due to the fact there are not replacement boards (other than Homepin's MPU board). So for board jockey repairs - it is difficult. As long as you have schematics and are resourceful with parts, they are reliable, easy to repair and maintain. I've repaired a few dead games in the last two years - they are basic machines as long as you don't need to go too deep in their schematics as they are often wrong !

PG, I am sure everyone is proud of their own machines, but the idea was to mention a friends or someone else's collection that you really liked or thought was worth showing off so to speak. A collection that impressed you !

Sometimes these threads are like pulling teeth. Lol

Anyone got anything to share ?

It was supposed to be a really easy one to answer !

Share your version of a great or best pinball collection someone has in their home. !
I said home cause I didnt want everyone saying the Pinball museum in Las Vegas etc.
The idea was that some members might say my mate Jeb has a collection in his shed and he has 6 or 12 pinnys consisting of X etc.

I was hoping for pinball collections cause we are primarily a pinball forum.
It was for members to hear about some cool collections they hadn't heard about or seen before.
It's just a mutual admiration thing. It's not for someone to say my collection is better than yours. It's just a collection of pins u like regardless of size manufacture or situation.

OK, I will share a collection I have admired for years.
A Japaneese collector in Japan has Apx 30 or 40 mint machines in his three story townhouse in Japan. It's a beautiful collection of all things DMD.  Maybe I can find a link for it. Members would absolutely love Tis one.

Another collection I saw was on the Gold Coast. My friend has a
Mint Twilight Zone
MediEvil Madness
AFM
Addams Family
Indianna Jones WB
Theatre Magic
Tales Arabian Knights
Both Pin2000 models
Star Trek Next Generation and maybe a few I have forgotten which are all minty.
Rarely played ever but just a beautiful representation of pinballs nicest designed machines.

Another small collection from Southport is Robs. Always 6 or more immaculate Stern LE models.

Another GCoast collection is johns collection from Burleigh. A good 12 to 18 machines by now incl NIB Sterns, 90,s Dmds and a WOZ plus TWilight Zone and many others. A very nice collection.

All these people love inviting people over. Great to meet like minded people and see some lovely collections.

C,Mon Melb guys, can u describe some for interested members ? Pls.  ^^^

Ohh, Chris Bucci has a great pinny collection as well. A very friendly USA Pinny collector with apx 40 plus machines. He has a lot of very nice pins from most eras. You may recall the various call videos he used to post on line.

I threw some collections outside of Australia so I don't get labelled restrictive. Lol
Anyone got anything to add please....

I know a guy with a collection of one
It is a The Shadow, in perfect condition
Now, The Shadow is based on the movie, The Shadow
This guy has also collected toys and other merchandice that come out for the movie and has them displayed in a cabinet beside the game
Looks great

That minty minty minty collection was all Bally/Williams not Stern! Lol
I was going to do a Best Sheds thread so places like Dans(Ddstoys) could get mentioned and other guys who have nice cars with pinnys n arcades and other stuff. Trying to keep this to pinball only as the main attraction.

That's a cool room Pete. One pinny and a lot of posters n movie memorabilia and a cool themed room.
I know a guy with the four Star Trek pinnies from the first SS job, to the DE ST 25th to the WB Next Gen to the latest Stern Pro in a room with nothing but Star Trek stuff everywhere. Just a cool themed room. Sometimes some of the smallest collections can be some of the coolest.
I like the Shadow one. Awesome way to theme a room out for sure !

I've seen some collections that impressed me greatly. Even moreso, the pride in which the collectors revere their machines. Diversity is what I look for in a collection, and I'm impressed with rare games. A niche collection in a niche hobby. My personal collection reflects my history, my memories and the sentimental value more than the cookie collection. My earliest memory was a GTB "Super Score", "Sky Jump" and "showboat". I have my father's Sky Jump - he operated in straight out of the box. Same with a "Spirit of 76". It means the world to me that I own them. I have Bally Bingos - again - operated since new, and recently removed from hibernation. Memories of Williams "Winner" - thanks to a trade with Oscar - I have one. The "golden age" of pinball is well represented - KISS, Paragon (since new), Viking, Medusa, Fathom, Flash Gordon, Eight Ball Deluxe, Xenon, Embryon (thanks Wotto), Centaur (thanks Gavin), Flight 2000 (thanks Marco), Freefall - All games I remember and played as a child. Then there is the infamous GTB SYS80 that were side by side at Flashbacks in 1983 ish - Black Hole, Haunted House and Spirit - and a recently traded Rocky (thanks Oscar). All part of my history.

DMDs were not really my thing, as the operating days were over around the time of Street Fighter II - But I HAD to have a Cirqus Voltaire and I have a Scared Stiff coming. The Walking Dead would be in my collection if the price was right, but for now - I'm happy.

On the journey - I've added Six Sticks - rare as hell - first 6 player game ever made (No - it was not $6MDM), Mariner - for its amazing artwork, Wizard, Nip It and Captain Fantastic because Bally EMs are my favorite. The jewel in the crown is my really nice Fireball.

I'm still looking. Would love to find that Super Score, Touchdown, Showboat, Zodiac, Hayburners.. I game i'd love to own would be "Rocket Ship" as it was the first woodrail imported in the mid fifties that Dad can remember. The schematic is in my library. The machine was some to a collector in St Kilda in the 70's. I will never be able to have THAT particular game, but I 'd like one anyway.

MY collection is diverse - and the most important aspect for me is that each game has a story to tell. As far as I'm concerned - they are all fun players. All pinballs are. That's why I LOVE seeing other people's collections - two games or twenty - I want to know the history and play the game.

One day I'll have them all ready - side by side. It is a dream, and irrespective of the fact I run a business around pinball, it is still something that keeps me focused. I'll do it one day..

Tony over at the Illawarra Steelers Shed had a great collection if your into EMs. Only been there the once but was very impressed and had a great time.
He had about 25-30 there and when they are all going, the noise is both deafening and awesome at the same time

Rob your collection is great mate, and to see your enthusiasm about each game is awesome.
Also Daniel, yours is great as well in a different way as your so proud of everything you own be it pinball or other coin op. Pleasure to meet you both and have the privelidge to play your machines. As for you Nino I don't think collection describes what you own mate, I have never seen so many machines in one place. Congrats to all of you and thanks for being such nice people.

thanks mate. Some of my comments about my collection was a little tongue in cheek in that this hobby shouldn't be a competition but to admire and appreciate eveyone's collection. Only the true pinheadz of this world look passed the superficial stuff and enjoy playing pinball for what its worth......a great lot of fun on your own or with others.

Yep. You start off just hoping some people will tell some stories about some cool pinball collections they have seen and you get everything but. Lol
Oh well, u can only try.

Still hoping to hear about some other cool home pinball collections.
Does anyone know the name of the AP member who has a lot of brand new Stern games ? I forgot the members name but think he is a friend of Chillies or lives over that way ?
Is it Cruiserman or have I got it totally wrong.
The member had a really large Stern collection of DMDs.

Also ANT68 (Tony) from Logan has a large collection of B/W and Sterns and every other manufacturer.
Wish we had more photos on this thread. Tony is also a top bloke.
