This is one of my all time favourite games. I purchased my game about 18 months ago and started the restoration pretty much straight away. I became frustrated with this restoration a number of times and had to leave it for periods of time before I was ready to get back to it. I had a little accident at the bottom of the playfield using the Treasure Cove Kit for the first time (which was 100% my fault, nothing to do with the kit which is brilliant) and I also found trying to match up the fluoro orange on the game in the top section of the playfield very difficult. These were probably the main reasons why this has taken ages along with the fact that I found it not an easy game to shop. I found that most of the machine screws had loc-tite on them in the T-nuts , and most broke off when I unscrewed them. Also, the coffee cup, although a great toy is a pain to remove and put back.
I purchased new plastics, backboard decal, target decals, targets, flipper kits, posts and bumper caps. I may purchase a new ramp set in future.
Some photos of the game when I received it and during the tear down.

More..
Looks like someone had a left a sponge in the ramp from a previous shop. :lol
-
The two nemeses in this game for me, the cup and top orange section
-
After the magic eraser I reached the point of no return with the top section, I had to paint it. I also replaced the decal Top 5 when lit. Thanks to elkor-alish who supplied me with the decal. I ended up purchasing the whole sheet as I needed one other decal.
-
The coffee cups in these get very yellowed, replacements are available, makes a big difference imo
-
Very happy overall with the cpr replacement plastics, colours are very vibrant. Only one plastic needed post adjustments to the originals.
-
My attempt at touching up the top fluoro section, not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but pretty happy with it. "Top 5" decal replaced as well. I then applied mylar to this section. It was a pity this area was not mylared from the word go, the rest of the playfield is and has held up very well.
-
Really like the detail they went to with this game, like the Jukebox on the backboard
-
Rest of playfield mylared, just left it and used Treasure Cove Kit. Opted for the food target decals rather than the original solid colours.
-
Game has great humuor both in game play and on the artwork.
-
Nearing the end of the restore now, playfield will be back in the cabinet soon.
-
Never played a DINER.. must hunt one down.. the theme appeals to me.
PF looks bloody great Tony
-
Great work Tony. Diner would have to be one of the best Sys11 game out there. Great artwork, great fun and challenging.
-
Excellent work.
I love the game.

Nice to see you finally got this one back together mate - Lord knows you whined about it enough on the trip #@# %.% %.%
Nah seriously - congrats it looks beautiful mate.....see NOW how all that frustration is worth it
Great job - now you just need a 'diner' && #@# &&

Thats coming along nicely Tony, Your repainted fluoro orange top section looks to have turned out real good ^^^
-
Great work tony, thanks for posting, never played one of these but love the theme of this pin. This would sit well next to a CFTBL.
-
this machine looks T'riffic. some of the nicest looking red colours on any playfield.
well done on a great job. i played a diner and I enjoyed it very much. congrats. great work. ^^^

A real "sleeper" title that is desirable these days. You are right Tony, the detail on this game is of the highest standard. The juke box is highly detailed for any game of this period. I'm glad you went with the CPR plastics, the colors compliment the shine on the playfield. I think you have done a great job with the orange wear section - well done !
-
Diner is a great game and yours looks great as well :) Nice work!
-
Looks real nice, I love the pins from this era. What was your misshap with the Treasure Cove Kit? I am waiting on one to arrive, your pain may save others from making the same mistake??

I used the wrong pad on my drill, not sure why I used it but I did. Took a little paint off the playfield, it was the textured wool one.

Thanks Tony

Nice work, looks great Tony *%*

That orange section came up really well, nice work.
Good call on not removing the mylar, I freaked out when mine was done.
-
Thanks Mark and thankyou for supplying that decal as well as the brand of fluoro orange that you used on your playfield. If you ever need decals or plastics in future for Diner, just let me know and I will give them to you if I have them.
-
Finally have this playing now. Just a little tweaking of the drop targets and it will be completely finished.
