Back in the early days of solid state, Bally (not sure about the other manufacturers ) controlled lamps on the backbox to attract players
The jumping bike on EK
The lightshow on KISS lettering, also done on Flash Gordon
The infinity light effect on Xenon, TESB, Space Invaders
Animated fireballs on FB II
Any others good backboxs light shows? (From any era)

Black Hole, Black Knight and Spirit were interesting on their release.

not sure about BK, the whole Backbox GI is one circuit , turns on and off
although the displays were doing more than just showing the score
forgot about the lightning effects on Haunted house

Space Invaders. The chaser lights that strobe to the sound (doo, doo, doo doo..) and get faster and faster. Still to this day is my favorite backglass / light show. Mirror backglass with the most menacing artwork. Love everything about the machine !
Having played Dungeons and Dragons with the topper, there is a mode where the topper window with a dragon is lit and you are blinded by lights from the sides of the topper. Scares the crap out of the players - and looks cool !
Fire ! Champagne edition with the rolling flames. Amazing effect !
