I was asked to replace a CFTBL Playfield with a GORGEOUS playfield that was repaired and clearcoated. Now the original playfield was better than most I've seen, but the replacement was simply stunning. No expense was spared on this playfield swap. The list of new parts (cosmetic) was extensive ;
- New Playfield Plastics
- New playfield plastics protector set
- Complete Ramp Set including Whirlpool bowl- PinballInc / RTBB
- Playfield Window provided by PinballInc
- Pop Bumper Caps wired to GI
- Teal pop bumper caps, lane guides and posts
While replacing the cosmetic parts, I also rebuilt all assemblies and replaced parts where necessary. The tumbler had a long workout on this job ! All coil sleeves were replaced and the playfield was completely decked out with LEDs (RTBB), and I also used LEDs for the translite.
Here's the really nice playfield that was installed in the game ;

The playfield was completely stripped. Anything broken was repaired of replaced. I tumbled all the metal parts.

While working on the game, I contacted the owner as I was not happy with the repairs to the original playfield window. Luckily, James from PinballInc had one left with decals for a very reasonable price.

The new clearcoated playfield is slowly re assembled ;

Pop Bumpers are wired to GI

A quick test to make sure GI is working.

Almost done - All ramps are PinballInc / RTBB. They make a MASSIVE difference. Car Mod is installed. I had to make a bracket, as there was not one provided.

Translite looks AMAZING with the LEDs installed. Note that these are not the cheap and nasty variety that have hit eBay recently. These are the high quality variety !

All the assemblies are rebuilt. Wiring is cleaned up. Subway ramp is cleaned properly. Correct flipper coils are installed with flipper rebuild kits.

Beautiful looking game, though in one shot the flipper bats were green and then blue, green looked better.
It is machine with great art.
Great work Nino

Looks great Nino .
2 mods I recommend to add to this
1) Dann's LCD Holo Mod (when its available) ..
2) Green lamps for the chase lights in the centre ramp and whirlpool bowl
Such a great game . I am still struggling to beat my personal best of 335 mil though.

Also just released on pinsider that Rick from Planetary and a German Pinsider are working on a hopefully a affordable hologram with a company that have 32 years making holos and have permission to use the a excellent condition original holo for the project - this company is aware of the correct foil to use which was the down fall of the repro that came out a few years ago..

Good news for those that would like a new Holo . I still think the LCD idea is better myself

wow, that is beautiful!! Owner will be chuffed for sure! @@*
-
This looks beautiful, I was close to buying a creatures last year, the main reason I didn't was because of all those plastic ramps going every where, and not being able to see clearly through them.
But as your pictures show, new ramps look great.
I wish I had of bought one now as this pin looks a million bucks.

Purple - not Blue. One of the Green bats had a loose shaft and was discarded. I prefer the purple. Easily changed later down the track.
Green #86 - I was going to install these, but the owner decided on the standard.
Holo - works perfectly and is completely Green - The best I've seen in a Creature ^^^
Thanks for the kind words.
-
Stunning!
Makes me want to buy another creature.
-
Purple - not Blue.
now that you say it the left looks like a dark blue to purple but the right definitely looks like purple - must be a purple thing.
looks great ^^^
-
Very nice!
I would use green lamps in the bowl, but not on the big ramp. The big ramp is supposed to look like a projector, and should be clear/white

Hmmm .. I never realised that John . Thanks for the heads up.

Wow,
Never seen one looking so good!
Great work,

Nice work you've done there Nino. Kudos to the owner and a great pinnie to have.
I've played Frank's Amusements CFTBL @ the Quarry Hotel recently and that too has been restored with new clear ramps, rubbers and leds fitted.
Gameplay was too fast to my liking.
Not a fan of the leds in the backglass - picture looks more like a washed out water-paint job. Also, that lower left slingshot is way too bright.
-
Wow that's insane, great work nino
-
Just had another look at the pics . Somehow only some downloaded yesterday . Really excellent job you've done there ^^^
-
Great work Nino, all that's left is for him to pick it up! %$%
-
That would look awesome with some of the new hot pink Cliffy post sleeves!
-
Awesome job, looks fantastic ^^^
-
Looks amazing, great work.

This is a prototype apron (illuminated) which is developed in Germany (Pinball dreams). Not yet available, but would suit on this beautifull Creature.

Will have to keep an eye out for when these are available , cool mod for Creech

Now THAT is how you do a CFTBL playfield swap. Very nice work, Strangeways. ^^^
RE: The Illuminated apron
I have one of those aprons for my MM. It was the first illuminated apron Pinball Dreams have shipped to Aus.
It will be about $400AU cost in total to get it here and with the Euro exchange rate.
The good news is that it is basically "plug and play."
Just a heads up. ()

Sounds like you think it is worth it though ??

My only criticism is that since the aprons are custom made, there is no spot for the instruction/pricing cards (not even any slots cut out in case you wanted to stick them in anyway and cover up the artwork).
As Kath and Kim say, it is "difrent, noice and unyousual" from the stock standard but may not be up to everyone's personal taste. ^^^
Edit: I don't think the aprons will be publicly available due to licensing "issues". Best to email pinballdreams if you are interested and "need more info". #@#

Beautiful work as usual Nino. ^^^
-
classic machine nice work
-
I'm not really that much into mods. But the aprons look VERY good and the original can be placed back at any time. I once saw the FANTASTIC T2 metal apron, and though that it would catch on. Great idea !
