Title: Hankin flipper coils
Post by: silverball on February 22, 2009, 03:41:21 PM
What are the recommended substitutes for a Hankin Empire Strikes Back flipper coil? Have a mate who has one with modified Bally coils(havent seen it yet) and are apparently very weak. He wants to change them regardless of any other mechanical/coil sleeve issue. Thanks.

I've seen Bally and Gottlieb coils in Hankins, and Hankin coils in Ballys.

Hankin did use Gottlieb parts / assemblies in games, so you might be able to use a "A-17875" as a substitute. Keep in mind I've never had to change a Hankin coil - I have a Hankin "ES 222" coil - which I THINK is the right coil - not sure if it is good.

The best thing to do is check the resistance of an existing coil - that is not weak, and then you can choose between ;

GTB - 17875 (2.8/40 ohms)
Bally - AQ 25/2500 34/4500

or if my ES 222 is good (and the right one) you can have that

Yeah, the Gottlieb coils mentioned by Nino are the go. Do **not** use the stronger Gottlieb 20095's - those targets in the centre will be minced in minutes.

Great response guys, I will have to go and check his machine out for myself and then decide which way we go.

That's right Greg - I've seen them in a few different machines. There was one in my old Spacies and in a Genie !

As long as it works - You will be ok !
