I was having a few games on my Flash yesterday (I have the back ground sound set to off) when part way into a game the back ground sound came on. Game was normal still till I had the the last ball (set to 5). Then it kept feeding me new balls. Shut it off and restarted, started up in test mode....mmmmm. Went out today and picked up some new batteries and installed them. (weren't due till June). Waited and turned it on....mmmmmm still in test mode, tried to redo the settings but was unable to get any changes done. Using green rom set. Out with the multi meter and checked 1D17 on both sides and had over 4volts not sure where else to look now. Beaky did his magic on these boards back in November 2012. Have on 1 or 2 occasions had it do this but a reboot would fix it. Have reseated ic's and conectors but to no avail. So any help would be appreciated.
Regards Keith.

Do the backbox displays show anything after the leds blink?
-
Yes is goes to test page 04 and the Rom revision number.

Bad RAM?
-
Possible

Tried the turning off then quickly on again trick?
Need to have the coin door open when you do it.
Also Did you get a voltage drop(about half a volt) at one side of the diode when you checked?
Agree possible bad 5101 ram or diode.

I have 4.55v on the battery side and 4.30 on the other. turning on off rapidly doesn't change anything. I have Phoenix here so will pull the cmos chip (5101) from it and try that.

Bugger, Phoenix cmos is hard soldered so can't do the swap.
-
Does anyone know if the cmos chip is available from Jaycar???
-
Unfortunately not.
They're not actually made anymore as far as I know but you should be able to get one from Ken (Skybeau) on here.

Just noticed Greg also carries them. (RTBB) ^^^

Yep bought them from Ken before, highly recommend, you will probably have before you open your wallet.

Yes Ken is the man. New chip arrived today so will pop her in and see what happens. ^^^

Thanks to all for steering me in the right direction. The new cmos chip did the job.

Nice work ^^^
