Title: WILLIAMS SYSTEM 3-6 TEST BENCH SETUP
Post by: ddstoys on July 17, 2011, 03:07:05 PM
Hey guys thougt a few of you might be interested in my latest creation.
Ive wanted to build this for years but always more important stuff to do.  Im having a F**K everyone else weekend and doing some stuff for me and im very glad i did.

My woodworking skills are crap but im pretty happy with myself after this effort.

It closes up like a suitcase it will have the entire electrical setup for a williams sys 3-6 inside with an LED lamp Matrix
A dedicated LED for each solonoid output all attaced to one Knocker for load
A setup to test each switch
and a button for each special solonoid

Still need to find the board mounting brackets and install the displays but you get the idea

Great work Daniel. It will come in very handy. I want to do a similar setup with the Bally / Stern boardset.

That's an excellent looking setup you've built.
Will make diagnosing the earlier Williams boards a whole lot easier for you.

Looks like a fine portable unit.....until you put the transformer in it....must weigh a bit now huh?  :lol :lol

Cool stuff, and i like the touch of picasso, using only 1 cabinet latch hehehehehe....

Yeah sure has some weight in it now onces it's all done I'll weigh it just for a laugh.  I can easily carry itat the moment i don't think the displays and
Stuff won't add that much more weight?

The scores won't add anything too noticable, but you might consider putting some castor wheels on the rear of the case so you can roll it around when it's vertical, and use an extender handle like the luggage cases.....

2c ;-)

Brilliant job Dan.

so where's my one.  &&

If you need an led and switch matrix made up I am sure I can make you a proper PCB for this.
I am thinking of making up a couple up for my self for a couple of test rigs so if you want one just let me know and I will etch an extra one for you.

Looks good Daniel  ^^^ i need to build something similar for Wms game boards, same as i did with my own test rig for Bally/Stern/sys1 Gtb displays and driver boards.

Speaking of which.. did you end up using the schematics for mine i sent you ages ago??

I have it half built on my work bench hidden under all the mess  *!@   But when the time comes to work on my own Ballys ill be sure to finish it.   I cheated and went alltek on the repair i was doing way back then !^! !@)

Next time you know to go 'Home pin' If you ever need a new bally mpu board again.
Besides I thought alltek built patios. Oh that's right, they're called Altech with 1 'L'  &&

Finally decided to finish off my test unit.

Now has a led LAN matrix wired in.
All Solinoid outputs wired up to a credit knocker also added a switch for each connecto so if a tranny is locked on I can simply switch off the groups 1-8. 9-16 17-22
I've added the diagnostic switch and buttons
And added a few globe sockets to the GI to test globe

Still want to setup a switch matrix but happy with it for now

Also added zif sockets to the CPU and PIA so I can easily test others.   Would like to zif all chips but not sure if I can get them for each.

Great concept and execution.

I got a box from a customer with boardsets from 5 Sys 3-7 pins to repair and I don't have a single Sys 3-7 pin in the lineup to test with.. so I've been trying to design a LED lamp matrix and LED switch matrix setup.

Got the idea from another technician to use slot machine buttons - they are illuminated, and with 64 of them, I could create one panel that could test lamp and switch matrices.

But, something with a small LED matrix and 64 small pushbuttons on a project board or something would prob make the job easier and more compact.

Looks excellent Daniel.

* Just dont go to the airport with it incase u decide to do some members board repairs when u travel.

"Is that a bomb wired to a timer in that bag sir"  !@#  (Daniel was last seen being dragged off by airport security towards the bomb squad department)
