Bally/Williams Diamond coat query
« on: February 13, 2009, 08:21:59 PM »
Hi Guys,

Quick question about diamond coating.

On my T2 is states it has diamond coating on the playfield, but my Indy 500 which is a much newer machine does not.

Do we accept that all late model Bally/Williams machine do or do not have diamond coating?

The reason is that I reckon that the late model playfields do not have as good a playfield finish as the first machines ie T2 etc.

Cheers Angelo

I believe diamond coat was on all playfields from Funhouse onwards. Not all Funhouses had it but they did start the process on that machine (I think).

Please correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

I've an Indy 500 flyer and just read it over and there is no mention of "diamond plate" but having said that I quick checked some other flyers I have for the same era of B/W and there is no mention either. The last sales pitch on flyers and the barcoding thing I can see is about '92-93. Maybe it was just an oversight in advertising and it was always done but was never thought worth a mention after awhile as it was a "given".

I believe they stopped stamping "Diamond Plate" on playfields from a certain date onwards. Not too sure though about the date.

After having a lot of stress trying to remove mylar from my flint at the time I'm pretty sure all Bally/williams were clearcoated from Funhouse onwards but after awhile didn't advertise it as it was a "given" as a new industry standard. Afterall -why go backwards. There is a similar thread running as to remove or not to. Have a PLAN B if it all goes pear.
