Title: Paypal SUCK
Post by: Strangeways on September 19, 2008, 09:15:02 PM

Long story short - I was sending a payment to my friends at CPR for some parts, and I clicked the "Pay Now" button.. Cool.. I checked my statement and Paypal double dipped my payment !!! Yep - paid the exact amount 4 seconds later.. Which is impossible to do manually. So I call their customer "helpline" and they tell me "there is nothing they can do" - except send an email to the Seller and HOPE they pay me back the second Payment... So they ADMIT fault, but it is up to ME to cancel the payment via the bank (cannot be stopped now), or HOPE the seller pays me !!!

Thankfully, CPR are a great bunch of blokes - so I don't think there will be an issue.. Just CHECK you Paypal statements... They DO make mistakes..

Ask Rollerball about his latest Paypal/ Ebay "adventure" ( he was the seller ).
Really unfair practices they are using.

( BTW - Not to hijack the thread but Rollerball got a Getaway II .....called in this arvo just so he could KICK MY ARSE on it.....drove home ashamed !!

I'm not too worried about the refund from CPR... It is just the BS spin from Paypal.. How could I make two seperate payments in 4 seconds while there is a pause of 5 seconds between hitting the "pay now" button, and the screen refresh ? Then I would have to hit the "send Money" and then click a few buttons... No way..

Just like eBay... PayPal are a law unto themselves!

Everyone should be aware of the many horror stories out there about PayPal. Just do a search on Google to find them... you'll be AMAZED!

I only use PayPal when I have to, and NEVER leave any money in the account.

Good News  :)

CPR noticed the second payment and refunded it BEFORE Paypal even pulled their finger out. But Paypal will "hold" the amount for 4 days.. They even make money out of making mistakes...

Yer, I got one of those "Paypal is a douchbag" stories this weekend.  I had to file a dispute last month about an item sent to me that was a POS advertised as NOS.  The seller (in Brazil) was kicked off Ebay right after I received it.  I filed the dispute on August 2, I sent the item back per Paypal instruction ($23 my shout) on August 8 and send the tracking info to Payal per instructions.  This Friday night (19 Sept)  at 10pm (I'm in the Eastern time Zone US) I get an email from Paypal saying if I don't send them a fax showing the proof of shipment by Monday (22 Sept) they will immediately drop the dispute.

That was the first damn correspondence from them in over a month and they drop a "do it now or else" crap on me.  Good thing I was available to send them the needed info.  This is the tactic Paypal uses when they have to honor a claim, they try to force you into a situation where you may not have the time to respond and they drop the claim and your screwed out of your money.

I would not accept a paypal payment for a pinball sale worth thousands of dollars, no way hosay $$.

You would feel like a real dick if the person reversed the payment a week later with the words "item not as described" on a dispute.

I would have to borrow Daniel's 12 gauge shotgun and go hunting.  **& **& **& **& **& **&

I can tell some stories that people just would not believe about the shonky practices of PayPal but I don't anymore as I'm just banging my head against the wall and some say I go on about it too much!

I bought some stuff from US ebay recently, seller cant provide proof he sent, they are long over-due, seller offered a refund, then changed his mind, its with paypal who want me to wait 4 weeks before deciding wether they will re-imburse me.

OK paypal suck and blow, but at least I have some chance of eventually recovering my money with them. My bank said it would be quicker to recover the funds via paypal, it would be a longer process my bank doing a charge-back.

In my opinion ebay is very dodgy, and paypal are a law to themselves.

Simple - don't buy it unless you or someone you can trust has looked at it. Unless it is a TOTAL bargain AND you are therefore prepared to take a punt, why bother???

I agree with you 100% Peter, PayPal 'can' be excellent and certainly convenient. I can also assure you that the day you have a transaction go wrong you will be SPEWING!!!

The problem is there are simply too many loopholes and idiotic rules that allow shonks to exploit PayPal and the simple fact that PayPal REFUSE to sign on as a signatory to the Australian electronic transactions agreement must surely ring some alarm bells??? Why the regulatory bodies in Australia allow this is beyond me?

I should have mentioned that PayPal is GREAT for smaller transactions - possibly up to $20~25. The chances of a problem are remote.

PayPal is simply not a logical option for payments above that as you are leaving yourself WIDE OPEN to be ripped off - both as a seller and a buyer!

The best thing is that, at least here in Australia, we have the Banking Ombudsman and he saves the day when the PayPal system fails (note I said "WHEN" - not "IF").

Thats maybe why I've been ok as most of my transactions are under $80 and I probally worry less, I just love the instant payment it speeds up transactions so much faster.
