Title: Where do you go for electronic components?
Post by: solar value on October 16, 2014, 07:50:28 PM
Hi All,

Just wondering where everyone buys their electronic components?

I have ordered some stuff from Element 14 and was going to go with them again but then found that Great Plains Electronics has everything I need and their website is so much easier to navigate.

The amount of choice on Element 14 is a little confusing at times, you often get 10 results for the same diode for example.

Drawback with GPE is, of course, that they are in the US so shipping is more expensive and the wait will be longer.

Cheers, SV

Can't go wrong with GPE.  The shipping isn't over the top and it normally doesn't take that long to arrive. Ed is a great bloke as well and always answers any questions promptly and has very sound knowledge when it comes to pinball machines as well.

+1 for Ed at GPE.

Very knowledgeable, good parts at reasonable prices.

I agree, Ed is great to deal with, very helpful and his postage costs are very good with no extra on top. In fact he will refund you the difference when the postage costs are less than his site estimates. This happens often, especially with larger orders. The only down side is the wait to receive your parts.

I use Rockby electronics or Jaycar when I need something urgently. Both do mail order within Australia. There are a couple of others, but I can't remember their names at the moment. Will update this post when I do.

Local - Rockby, RS and RTBB (selected parts)

O/S - GPE and sometimes Bigdaddy Enterprises

GPE caters for pinball, so they almost certainly have what you are looking for. Ed is great to deal with.

RS does offer free shipping as mentioned above and have a large selection but click on the 'real time qty checker' and see if you get 'delivery next working day' or it will be 5+ days.
