Meteor sound hum

Background hum quite loud and it starts after the second beep(flash).cpu ,sound board are good.They have been tested in another game. Speaker and line filter good aswell. Anybody with some ideas to try next? !@#

Speaker grounded ?

Do you have a spare SB-300 sound board ? Could be one of the caps on the board, and swapping the board with a spare might isolate the issue.

Yes... possible faulty noise/ripple cap on the board... also make sure you have solid grounding. I always solder extra ground from the board ground and screw to the true ground on the machine...ie earth braid etc

Will check those. The machine is a friends and is not with me but i will contact him to try these things.

Will check the grounding. Two working SB-300's were tested in game,both good but still the hum was there. Also these boards test good in a Quicksilver and no hum . Think it may be a Grounding issue i'll get him to check and i will be trying a Altek board on game.So i'll post on the outcome

What about dodgy cap in power supply? Could that cause enough ripple to give a hum?

Fixed. Broken SB cable .One pin, Looks like the factory were rough #(& when putting the cable together and cracked the plastic connector housing and it finally let go after many hours of shaking. Thanks for the tips ^^^

Thanks for your help ralph,enjoyed playing the meteor with taylah and pop lastnight,pop's puts some coolas leds in aswell $#$
