Title: Stern Striker Extreme Reconditioning
Post by: Strangeways on January 21, 2015, 11:32:43 PM
A game I completed last year, but didn't document. It is a game I reconditioned for a friend for his son's Birthday.

Objective

The game will be done within a budget. I rarely do this, but it is a game that I like to present at a high standard, but at a realistic price. Just because it is a "Striker Extreme" container filler, does not mean that when the game is done correctly, it can be a great player.

Condition Report

Playfield - 8/10 - Mylar. No wear. No issues to deal with unless a problem occurred with the factory mylar removal.
Cabinet - 8/10 - scuff marks around the flipper buttons.
Translite - 10/10 - no problems
Electronics - 9/10 - Battery socket needs to be replaced. No corrosion

"Before" Pictures

Straight out of the container (but hand picked - not a usual filler).

Dull playfield with the mylar installed.

I see this on almost EVERY "shopped" game. The subway ramps are rarely cleaned. No point in working on the playfield without cleaning this area.

As per the STANDARD - The cabinet is stripped, cleaned and then reassembled with clean and polished parts.

MYLAR removal !

As per the standard - EVERYTHING rebuilt - broken parts replaced as with coil sleeves etc..

Playfield is completely stripped.. or is it ? The metal guides are left in situ because removing them almost always results in the area with the hole being damaged. During the polishing process, these are cleaned and polished and look great.

Mylar removal, clean playfield and then a lot of polishing..

Re assembly of cleaned, polished and regrained parts..

Pop Bumpers are rebuilt with new parts. No short cuts on any games..

Regardless of the machine or the value of the machine, I follow exactly the same process as a base standard. For those that have not played a fully working game, it is a VERY underrated machine !

Nothing better than a good polished play field, new owner will be happy for sure.
Never played one of these and wouldn't mind having a crack at it either.
Congrats to the owner.
Good to see the Aussies on the play field

This is a very fun game - I think sports themed games often have poor reps among pinheads to a degree. Capcom Flipper Football is a prime example (and Soccer too) - terrific fun game, but often unloved.

My current project actually has a lot of Striker DNA in it (thanks Daniel!) as I am using a lot of parts from a playfield that was parted out.

I maintained one of these for a local operator for a period of time. Fun game. Very underrated and for the right price, I'd own one.

It has been almost 3 months since I've updated ANY resto work, so here's the tail end of the Striker Extreme ;

We decided to use white rubbers. It made the game much more playable in terms of speed and fun !

Under the playfield - Each lamp insert was cleaned as well as the lamp socket itself. All mechanisms rebuilt - exactly as I would have done on an Addams Family or similar - the process is the same.

The manual is RETURNED to the game. All games have a manual provided. If I don't have one, I buy one for the game. This helps the new owner locate parts, or fix the game or just familiarize himself with the settings etc.

All done !

This is the typical scenario where the game itself has a bad name due to the title or theme. When these "lesser" games are done with the same process as a cookie cutter, they play VERY well. It is not a "throwaway" container pin - this is a VERY good "value for money" pinball. already in a good home - a 13th Birthday present that was delivered around Christmas !
