G'day
« on: May 10, 2012, 08:19:59 PM »
Hi everyone! I'm a young timer looking to start a pinball hobby, have been researching avidly all the various titles out there to find a good first machine (or two or three I hear it's an addictive pastime). I'm just a bit north of Sydney NSW. If anyone has any tips I'd love some advice!

Welcome aboard, young timer, from all us old timers!

Tip one: make sure you play the machine before purchasing. While software like Visual Pinball will give you a good idea of gameplay, you really have to play a pinball machine to know if you like it or not.

Tip two: Unless you really know what you want and they happen to be high-end machines, then I would try to purchase a couple of cheaper machines ($1600 to $1800) to begin with that you enjoy playing. That way if one needs fixing you still have a second to play on while you work out what is wrong. You can always move them on later.

Thanks all! Nice tips ajlaird, I was thinking maybe a BST & a White water rather than one of the more expensive pins. But I haven't played either of them yet! Yeah I've been working my way through VP / FP titles, great fun, looking forward to getting the real deal.

G'day Josh, Welcome and enjoy.

check out the sited pinball thread to check out pinballs in your local area even in Newcastle at Pinball and Pizza (after 4pm) always have 6-7 out the front as well as there are quite a few pins spread out in Newy and Central Coast by Luke. I have put a (L) behind his pins as they are all really nice playing pins and often he is open to selling select ones.

but like what ajiard said, better if you can play first. If in doubt start a thread and ask for help.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

I feel a plan brewing to drive through budgewoi, play some of Luke's pins,  work up a hunger for pizza,  which may very well be satisfied in Newcastle!
