Title: Wanted - Woodrail
Post by: punkin on April 18, 2021, 05:39:05 AM
Looking for a nice woodrail and i know this is where i'm likely to prize one out.

I'm refining my collection now and i'm really finished growing it, but i'd like to have 1 woodrail to complement my Royal Flush EM and be able to show people the history of pinball.

Looking for something i can show off, so restored but don't need to have collectors quality. Just something that's fun to play and will keep me coming back. I'll have to get rid of a machine so swaps with cash either way is fine too, have Flash, Spy Hunter, Spectrum and a Getaway high Speed II that i could part with.

Sadly don’t think I could part with any of mine

Perhaps you may know of someone or meet some one who would like to see more people exposed to their beauty?

Very rare to see them on sale, so you will need to be patient. They do appear from time to time, and if it is a dealer, at massive prices. They are often not original, wrong legs etc etc.. They appear on eBay, again - overpriced. Sometimes you can call dealers etc to see if they have any leftovers, as some dealers don't know what they are or their value. I agree with other comments, sometimes you need to gain access to collectors. I would start with Michael Shalhoub "Pinballmaster" in NSW as he has MANY contacts in the industry. The guys at "Pinball Rescue" have access to MANY woodrails, and if you could ever speak to Alan Tate in Queensland, you might find machines as he has hundreds. I waited decades for my woodrail collection, and would find it impossible to sell any of them as most a SUPER rare. BUT - they are harder to play than other games, and that is one of their advantages - only good players can play woodies.

Sounds pretty discouraging.

what I found surprising with woodrails, is that they are smaller that what you are used to

Sounds pretty discouraging.

Why ? Pick up the phone and call Michael "PinballMaster". I spoke to him late last week and he has several Woodrails he is happy to parts with. It is rare to have what you want plonked on your doorstep, so start calling and I guarantee you will have a woodrail in no time.

Google is your friend - https://www.pinballmaster.com.au/

He has a lot of woodrails and I send people to him for "hard to get" machines. His name is Michael - tell him I sent you (Nino)..

Nice ! I'll bet it won't be your last. It is in really nice condition. See - they are out there if you shake the tree and look hard enough !!

Thanks guys, looking forward to seeing it.

I didn't shake any trees, it fell in my lap. A mate knew i was interested in one and dropped in the other day to tell me he had a mate who was selling one it went from there.

I like that it's a Williams, even though they are rated so far below the Gottliebs of the day. I'm a B-W sucker for my ss machines.

It has a really cool animation on the backglass of a plane going round, but i don't know how to post a video.

What do you guys think this would be worth through a dealer?
Title: Re: Wanted - Woodrail
Post by: Strangeways on June 17, 2021, 06:46:32 PM
Dealers would have absolutely no idea how to price Woodrails. That's why they don't sell them as they use the "rare" and "collectible" tags on anything, setting the price to $4000 and wondering why they don't sell. Each game would need to be researched and then assessed. Woodrail collectors value good playing games. If they don't know the game, they will play it before making an offer.

It's in the states so i'll just have to muddle through it myself i suppose. Won't be playing it first and wouldn't know what was good or bad about them anyway.

Thanks for the response.

I paid $500 for a mint Playfield mint Backglass 1940 flipperless woodrail,  and paid $1500 for a completely stuffed one with all melted pop bumpers etc because I liked the Backglass and look of the game,

There’s no set pricing on woodrails people name a price and people either buy them or not sadly

Don’t pull the trigger on the woody if I’m not to late I just remembered an Aussie collector mentioning downsizing,   I’ve asked the question just waiting on a reply

Wonder if i could get a set of Titan rubbers for it? May make the nudging better?

(can hear the purists howling from here) !*!

Can't wait to hear the moans and groans when it comes up in comp too.

Titan rubbers are the way to go I’ve found them to be the closest to real rubber without the cracking in a months time

Yeah Nino that Jet Spin is ROUGH!! Customer just wants it working, doesn't want the cab done (at this stage at least.. and i can't commit to any more cab restores at this point in time anyway!!). It's missing the chime box... i know its a long shot but does anyone happen to have one they wanna part with??  @@^ @@^

And yes Control Tower is in nice shape.. it looks like the playfield has been restored and cleared, and the backglass is as good as it looks in person as it looks in the picture!

Just let me know whenever it's ready Mitch, I'll drive down when it suits you rather than hurry you up to catch Bill now we are out of lockdown. $!&

Had a fair bit wrong with it, and it gave me a few headaches but Control Tower is up and running and working as it should now  $#$
Just need to run it for a few more days to make sure its all good and it'll be ready for pick up.

Have to say i really like it.. i find it really addictive to play, definitely one of those "just one more game" kind of games!! I'm very glad to have had the opportunity to work on it (and play it heaps before it leaves the building)  <.>

She's home, she's beautiful AND she's fun to play.

Thanks so much Mitch.

Can't wait to see their faces when it comes up in comp tomorrow. Hope she's drawn in the finals! !*!

Sharp eye may notice i was half way to clocking it in my second game.

Jeezus that was your score after just two games??  $$(  you didn't have a few practice games first did ya <.> <.>

Remember though as i told you, it won't clock like a score reel game will.. it'll go to around 9.5 million and won't go any further due to the way the 100k/1 million stepper works.

Well i had a few practice balls in any case.

Took a couple games to realize that 1956 was indeed not the first game with multiball. i can play multiball on this machine too. *)*

Could be a good tactic in comp tomorrow. I'm not telling anyone before the finals.

You couldn't get this machine off me with a baseball bat.

Starting to get a good game here and there. 6,400,000 now.

Can't stop playing it, getting 10x more play than anything here and sharing the room with these 4.
