any crap old playfield
« on: August 02, 2014, 10:46:00 PM »
Hey guys im looking for a shitty old playfield. I dont care what it is or what wear it has on it. I want to learn to air brush and I thaught this way would be good to start with before I make mistakes on my own. It would be preferable to be free and I dont mind paying postage.
Thanks Bren

Just my 2 cents, but if you wanna master airbrushing techniques, you don't need a playfield, just practice on any decent sheet of wood/plastic/paper.

If you're wondering how airbrushing will 'respond' to being applied to existing paint (playfield art) then just pre-paint a sheet of cardboard, chipboard or MDF, this will give a more realistic feel of how a playfield will react to receiving the airbrush paint.

Pre-painting your sheet of wood will also seal it and stop the paint being absorbed into the wood giving the wrong impression of how it will REALLY react on painted playfields.

The first step would be to get a good feel for your airgun, KNOW how it responds how far it sprays, spreads while mastering air-pressure & distance factors too.
Just go nuts spraying all different angles & distances onto a newspaper.

Airbrushers Golden Rule #1:
You need to master the gun before you can master the painting.

Thanks MM I think I will do that. sounds like very good advice.Ive got heaps of spare ply and mdf laying around. I was thinking towards learning the colour matching side of things as well. but where do you stop, theres so many diferent colours and every pf is diferent anyway..

Firstly, buy yourself a Pantone paint-colour guide (aka colour bridge), you'll need it to match colours properly, it also contains the paint codes for your paint supply to mix up for you.
They cost $80 to $150 on ebay, just look for the cheapest deal, and make sure it's 2014 model, anything older will be faded and inaccurate.
