Looking forward to any updates NPL would like to make about Pinfest 2013
-
The silence is getting louder.
-
Theres nothing on the Facebook page apart from a date confirmation. Your not going to get general chit chat speculation and discussion from the organisers as they dont frequent this forum unless to chastise.
What do you need to know?? It will happen on the dates provided and it will feature pinballs to play.. is there anything else?

Where's Annie? <.>

I think that comment is a bit harsh Gav and it's comments like that which will quickly start uneccessary debates ...

Sorry mate.. forgot you were an NPA member.. im afraid the bad sticks in the mind more than the good... wasnt directed at you and i take the comment back
-
Thanks for the update Scott.
Gav's was a pretty accurate comment, but I very much admire him for his retraction.
Let's keep this thread clear of too much commentary on some of the past behaviors and concentrate on keeping things positive.
-
Thanks for the update / info guys ^^^
All the best with getting Pinfest together.
-
No probs re the comment Gav . I didn't take it personally but others may . Just thought it best to keep any unneccessary comments out of the thread .
Thanks for posting the flyer blue95 . I think we still have to finalise the details on it as far as sponsors etc. go but people can get the general idea of what it will look like .
One feature that people may notice that is different from last year is we are doing 2 timed play sessions per day .
Saturday 21st - 9am - 1pm , 2pm - 6pm .
Sunday 22nd - 9am - 12pm , 1pm - 4pm .
The cover charge will be $10 for a single session or $15 for an all-day pass ( ie. both sessions ) .
The 1 hour shut down between sessions will give us time to attend to any small issues that may arise with the machines that were near impossible to attend to last year with so many people packed into the venue .

Great idea *%*
-
The only way you will get the punters out at break time will be to warn 5 minutes ahead then switch off the power to the machines like we had to do last year 'cause they just won't stop playing them otherwise.
-
I'm spewing I'll be on the Gold Coast that weekend as I really wanted to go :-( but glad AP has a info thread and that will make it a top event for all.

So far the flyer is pretty much all the info we came up with at the first meeting last night, it's just a start to get the info out there.
-
The flyer looks great and makes me want to go!
This has to be a positive event for pinball in Australia.

I was on the portable mic that much last year I lost my voice - some said that was a blessing but I'm not religious %.%

Mike, can u speak Cantoneese or Mandarin ? because I was thinking this year, u could announce specials in either language for your products, and get peoples attention.lol %.%
I reckon it would be a classic to see peoples faces looking at you wondering what the hell u are saying as you are holding up a new Homepin DMD Display, talking in Mandarin or Cantoneese. %.% People would remember you for years.
.......and on a serious note, anyone who learns to speak Chineese, would be doing themselves a great service as China will be this centuries financial powerhouse, and switched on operators like Mike are already doing business overseas which ends up getting alot of pinheads, at the Newcastle Show and on the forums, cheaper and more modern pinball products.

Maybe you need a bigger PA system than you had last year Mike :D :lol
-
I can get by in Mandarin. Anyone considering learning Chinese should study Mandarin as it is spoken country wide as well as in Taiwan where Cantonese is only spoken in Hong Kong and Canton (Canton is actually Guangzhou, pronounced Gwong Joe).
I will come up with a line or two to use...... %.%

Mike, Excellent...will be a show stopper for sure. ^^^ Would love to see peoples faces, will add some extra fun to the NPA Show 4 sure.

Article from a local paper up that way
BY all accounts, Rob Denton is a bit of a pinball wizard.
The Eleebana resident loves pinball so much, he recently travelled to Germany to play in a tournament.
This weekend he’ll be closer to home, with the staging of the second annual Pinfest at Caves Beach – which Mr Denton started.
He first began playing pinball aged seven.
‘‘I preferred pinball to video games because I always had the chance of getting a free game,’’ he said.
Twenty cents was a lot of money for a young bloke back in the 1970s, he said.
‘‘I remember when the cost of a game rose from 20 cents to 40 cents, everyone was most upset.’’
The price of a game these days is $1 to $2, but at Pinfest singles will pay $10 for entry and families $20 – with no cost to play the machines.
About 10,000 people are expected to attend the two-day event, which will raise money for Hunter Region Sids and Kids.
Up to 70 retro and modern pinball machines worth more than $450,000 will be at the event, along with arcade games.
Pinball machines will include Addams Family, Bride of Pin-bot, AC/DC, X-Men, Empire Strikes Back, Playboy, Paragon and Mata Hari.
Arcade games like Frogger, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Asteroids and Gyruss will be there.
Mr Denton said the event was ‘‘old-school fun that can be shared and enjoyed by the whole family’’.
‘‘Playing pinball and arcade machines brings back great memories for people,’’ he said.
‘‘Today people spend a lot of time on the internet, but we used to meet friends and play games at the amusement arcade.’’
The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday at Caves Beachside resort.
Resort owner Bill Saddington said power supply would have to be increased by 30per cent to stage the event.
‘‘It’s quite a logistical exercise,’’ Mr Saddington said.
Sure plays a mean pinball
PINBALL Wizard is a song written by Pete Townshend and performed by the English rock band The Who. It reached the top 20 in the US charts and the top five in the UK.
Pinball Wizard featured on The Who’s 1969 rock opera album Tommy, which told the story of a ‘‘deaf, dumb and blind kid’’.
Tommy was exceptional at pinball but his skills helped to cover a disturbed past.
Tommy’s parents would leave their burdensome son with relatives, many of whom took advantage of him. He was tortured by his malevolent ‘‘Cousin Kevin’’, and molested by his uncle Ernie.
Tommy was turned into a British musical film in the 70s in which Elton John performed the song Pinball Wizard.
The stage show Who’s Tommy also ran for more than two years on Broadway in the early 1990s.

Just realised that a huge torana show was up that way last weekend, Toranafest http://www.toranafest.com.au/ (http://www.toranafest.com.au/)
I should have made a week out of it @.@

Here is a video I took at Pinfest 2013 with my Partner at the start.
I had a fantastic time on both days.
Looking forward to next year.

Thanks for sharing, hope to make it next year. Thinking I might take my embryon if I get it restored !@#

Well once again an AWESOME time was had by myself, and the rest of the 'midnorth coast crew'.. greenechidna, howzat and big dog (Andy, Ian and Cam respectively).
I got to catch up with some of the members i met there last time, plus meet a few new members of both AP and AA.
Meeting Lee and Gordon from Pinball Rescue was another highlight for me, having bought a lot of products from them over the years, i bought a few goodies from them while at Pinfest as well.
I also managed to bring home a new project game that one of the pinfest staff members had for sale via an advert on a 'for sale' advert board that was on display there &&
Will post pics of the new project in a new thread soon *%*

Here are just a few shots - had a great Saturday arvo and night at this event.

Great venue/ location.
A few of us headed up to Cooks Hill to play WOZ until the early hours of the morning after CB closed its doors .....My Newcastle experience was excellent - ESPECIALLY the 2am Maccas 'experience' near that popular pub - all I can say is OMFG ! :o:o:o
-
Looks like a hoot!
Good vid and photos, might have to do an Indian Ocean/West Coast pinfest one day? *%*
Really liked seeing some young crew rocking up and hopefully enjoying themselves
PINBALL IS FOR THE MASSES and should be promoted as such, very sociable.
Only game missing was Gilligan's Island ( best game ever! )
We'll done all involved and those who attended
