Hi People.
As a quite a few of you know I have a Pinball repair website. http://beakyspinballrepairs.moonfruit.com/ (http://beakyspinballrepairs.moonfruit.com/)
It still needs a lot of work though I just haven't had the time to work on it (to many board repairs)
I specialise in corrosion repairs (battery leaks and other types of corrosion) but I also do all types of board faults for all brands of SS and DMD machines.
I have been doing pinball repairs (including board repairs) since 1986 and have worked in amusement centres as a pinball / video game tech (many years ago)
I can supply eproms if needed and also do on site repairs in south east QLD.
Any way there are more details on my board repair services on my website and there will be more stuff on there about my services when I get time to update it.
LONG LIVE AUSSIE PINBALL

Hi Beaky, checked out your website, displayed well on my phone ^^^
Hope your new venture kicks off well for you, I would think that there would
be plenty of opportunity for pin repairs on the Gold Coast.
Cheers

Andy (Beaky) has been servicing all of my 30 plus DMD pinballs for the last few years. There is nothing Andrew cant fix. He can work on Pinball 2000 boards and I think he is the only person in the country who can, to my knowledge. No matter what pinball issue I throw at him he can fix it, and with ease I might add.
Andy has recently overhauled my Revenge from Mars Pinball 2000 monitor, replaced some bits n pieces on the monitor chasis, degaused the factory tube monitor and made it like new. The difference in the vibrant colours, the overall performance has made this machine like brand new. You have to see it to really appreciate it.
This list of board repairs Andy has done for me, and every other pinball fix known to man is extensive and impressive. I met Andy via the forum 2 years ago, and since then I have had Andy work with me in my Security Business with electronics etc. Again, he has a very indepth and broad knowledge of all things electrical/electronics.
I do give him a hard time from time to time for being a little slow, but as he rightly points out, its best to be thorough and do the job right the first time, and rushing any jobs for the sake of just banging it out isnt in Andy's vocabulary. I am a tuff person to keep happy, and i can be a bit of a cranky bastard, but if anyone wants any repair work or advice from a fair dinkum bloke who has a heart of gold, you cant go past Andy.
Aussie Pinball is full of some very talented people, and its blokes like Andy who will bend over backwards to help any member out anytime. Andy has a wife n 3 kids, so the pocket money he makes doing board repairs, service calls and general restoration helps put food in the fridge, but its his love of pinball and helping people out which is really why he does what he does. If you need any help, give Andy a go, he will always give it his all. ^^^ ^^^

Thanks Guys
my pinball diagnosing is very thorough and I don't charge on an hourly basis. I only charge for the actual repair and I do get the boards repaired ASAP.
when It comes to corrosion repairs and repairing some one else's hack repair jobs on boards it does take more time then just a simple diagnose and repair.
When I do a corrosion repair I remove all corroded parts. then all the remaining solder. sand the corroded area to remove any remaining corrosion, neutralise the corrosion, tin all exposed copper with solder, mask up all headers seal top side of the pcb with solder through pcb lacquer, install new parts.repair any damaged tracks with jumpers, then seal bottom side of pcb with lacqer, mask any new headers and I.C sockets and re coat top of board.
It makes me exhausted just typing the process.

Good on you Andy, and all the best with the services offerred ^^^.

Hi Beaky,
Can you tell me a good on site reparer in Melbourne. I have a few SS machines that have some minor issues that need sorting out.

Hi Beaky,
Can you tell me a good on site reparer in Melbourne. I have a few SS machines that have some minor issues that need sorting out.
I am not sure of an on site repairer in melbourne. I know there are a few guys that are on here that fix there own machines in melbourne. It might pay to post this question here http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?board=30.0 (http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?board=30.0)
I 'might' be going down to Melb. over the next week, I will let you know if it is a definite.
Strangeways might know of someone, throw him a P.M. and if he knows any one he will let you know.

Top Tech, top rates and a top guy to boot!
Thanks again mate for all your help.

reading the reply's here, it seems this man for the job, looking forward to the pinball repair master fixing my old rock machine, cheers mate
-
Beaky did an overhaul on my Bally SS boards and they are like brand new. He is now doing my other set. I just sent everything up from Melbourne. Very very happy and mighty impressed. Highly recommended. He is an extremely valuable resource in a very small market!
-
I have been burnt by a dodgy tech before, after that beaky is a godsend.
He has done some some boards for me as well as general pin reapair.
He takes extra care and goes out of his way to make sure everything is just right.
-
Took my boards up to him on Sunday, very nice bloke and open to a good chat. Explained everything that will be needed and i left confident that he is the right man for the job. Onya Beaky. ^^^ PS nice family too.
-
I have had some more boards from other members dropped off to my place today for Andy to fix. ^^^
Word of mouth travels fast. Happy customer Reccomendations means more work. ^^^ I will drop them over tomorrow mate.
I have got a sound board and a DMD driver board for ya from the member. Then you have to finish off all my Phoenix boards and replace all the old stuff still left on them.
You will be busy til Xmas but you are carving thru it at a nice rate. Well done Beaky.
-
Thanks for the kind words guys, I try and do my best to keep your machines running smoothly.
I don't get a lot of time to jump on here ATM due to board repairs and call outs to repair machines in peoples homes.
It's amazing how many people have a pinball machine in their house on the Gold Coast alone, and I love the true stories of how they acquired the machine.
Just about every time I go to someone's house to repair a machine there is a teenager or a younger kid just dying to play the machine when it's fixed, so maybe there is a future for pinball with the next generation. #*#
-
This guy is a legend, came out and fixed my machine today, real professional guy he also doing board repairs for me
-
ok Andrew came out today to put back in my boards he repaired, well he went above and beyond the normal to fix them, came out and fixed other things with my machine, and if any one has ever had a devil machine that just would not play ball would know any repairer would charge out their back side to fix when it was a mountain of issues, i now have a machine that is relyable and ready to do work in our shop. He also came over to my house after fixing our shop's machine to swap over the boards on my wcs94 into the new headbox. again did an awesome job and cant say in words how great this guy's work is. true champ and bloody good prices. he is rare in the fact he actually cares about how his work is seen and wants to impress the customer. will use again
-
Great feedback! ^^^
-
awesome
-
Thanks for the kind words and the great hospitality Jason & Olivia
It was a devil of a machine but as you know I never give up on a fault / faults until they are fixed.
I must also thank the members who helped me out by supplying me with the schematics & sound files for your machine.
I could have kicked myself for leaving the system 80B schematics at home today but fortunately I was able to remember enough from them to be able to diagnose all the remaining faults on your ROCK.
I must admit we got the guts of the back box changed over pretty quickly on your WCS.
And the steak sandwich that was supplied to me for lunch from your shop was second to none.
-
Nice work guys ^^^
-
Good work andrew ^^^

Just wanted to say a HUGE thanks to Andrew(beaky) & mike (homepin) for there efforts in re-building my Bally WPC Power driver board.
Andrew called over last night and fitted all the boards to my CFTBL, and it now runs as good as new. $#$ just in time for xmas, thanks mate.
The passion members here have to help each other out to just bloody awesome. I've said it before AP is the best pinball site on the planet!!
Thanks again Andrew & Mike & MERRY XMAS 2011

your welcome mate ^^^
It just shows how important it is to replace the electrolytic capacitor on a wpc mpu board and the capacitor after the 5 volt regulator when replacing the bridge rectifiers and capacitors on the power driver board to rectify a resetting problem.
someone had replaced the cap and rectifier not long before leon bought his CFTBL to rectify a reset problem but failed to replace the 2 caps i mentioned above. A few months after Leon bought his machine the reset problem came back. That is why I insist my customers send me both the power driver board and the mpu board when they need a reset problem fixed.
This was the power driver board that had the totally burnt and butchered G.I. section. I designed a board layout that is mounted on to the power driver board and replaces the G.I. circuitry to over come this problem and sent the PCB file to Mike from Home Pin. Mike etched and routed the board to my layout, I then installed all the new components and fitted it to the damaged G.I. section.

Beaky was at my place yesterday to repin my Space Invaders, install the rebuilt boards that I'd sent him and work on some other very annoying general faults. Beaky's knowledge of Pins and dedication to same is just jaw dropping. He is like a dog with a bone when he see's a problem with a pin.
I encourage anyone who needs board work done to utilise Beaky's services. Personally - I cannot see myself using anyone else for any other pins that I purchase and if I lived in Brissy / Gold Coast I'd be getting him to service mine! Thanks once again Andrew..
-
your welcome mate.
thanks for your hospitality, I came across some weird and wonderful faults in that machine but we got through it all in the end.
you have done a fantastic job with the restoration work, I will look great and play great when it is totally finished.
I was happy to come down from the Gold Coast to work on your machine,
hope to catch up again when I am in Melbourne again
-
Thanks again mate your the best! As always I can't put into words how good Andy's service is, if you need a tech he is the only choice for quality service. ^^^

CV has gone back to it's home but I have a TOM here atm with a dodgy eddy switch/sensor..whatever they are.... #@#

Am too lazy to do this myself.. But here you go Daz, give this a whirl..
Could it be a bung magnet though..?
Stolen from the interweb, credit where credit is due..
Heres some info:Adjusting Eddy Sensor Boards.
Often eddy sensors can go out of adjustment and become less sensitive. This can cause the eddy sensor to not activate when a ball passes above it on the playfield. To adjust an eddy sensor do this:
* On the under the playfield eddy sensor control board, turn the potentiometer counter-clockwise until the LED just turns on.
* Now turn the potentiometer back clockwise until the LED just turns off.
That is all that is required to adjust the STNG/ToM/RS eddy sensor. To test the sensor, put the game into WPC diagnostic's first switch test. Then move a pinball over the playfield area where the eddy sensor is located. The switch should activate on display. Also from the bottom of the playfield, the eddy board LED should go ON as a ball passes in front of the eddy board's senssor (this can be seen anytime, the game does not need to be in switch test.)
