Title: Bally coil transistor
Post by: vanhos on September 08, 2014, 08:06:52 PM
Hi I'm looking for an equivalent transistor for my  drop target coil se9302.

Is it a tip102. If it is, does anybody no were I can get one from online.

PM me your address and I'll send you a couple, not worth ordering on line unless you need some more stuff.

for future ref, rtbb sell tip102 if you are after these.

TIP102 or TIP122 will do just fine, Jaycar sell them but RS are cheaper if you plan ahead.

 Thanks heaps guys.

Just a quick question. The reason for the transistor blowing I think was a dodgey diode (broke away in my hand). I have since red up about these transitors bed found if the wires are reversed on the solonoid we could do some damage again.

So just checking the common cables to the coil ( fat cables) should be on the same side as the band in the diode?

Hope u guys understand the question.  !@)

The diode can be soldered to the coil either way - but you are correct - the two larger gauge wires must be soldered on to the banded side of the diode.

I've put a couple of the transistors in an express post envelope, you should have them tomorrow.

No worries, good luck with the repair.

 #*# #*#

All fixed. New resistor, diode's and a transistor. Target reset now works great. Even seems a bit more powerful than before.

I replaced the diode on the solenoid it actually fell apart as I removed it so I'm thinking that was the course from the start and the solenoid board Copt the brunt of the failing diode.

Thanks heaps aussiepinball again. And big thanks to pinnies4me.

Well done getting it going again  ^^^ ^^^

And yes you're right, a failing solenoid diode will most certainly destroy a driver transistor  *%* *%*

Well done in diagnosing and repairing the problem!  ^^^
