Well here it is finally.
Today i started the long awaited CFTBL rebuild. For those who dont know this machine was bought for my son to get him interested in pinball id given him a Gottlieb Magnatron for xmas the year before which we rebuilt together but he had no interest in playing it cant really blame him so i sold magnatron and took him to visit Pinball spare parts where he had the choice of whatever projects were in my budget. Im glad he chose creatures as its a favorite of mine aswell.
Id been slowly buying new parts ready for the rebuild but by the time i had all the parts i needed i had no time left to rebuild it (Like the saying goes a plumbers tap always leaks)
So i put my foot down and started it.
Here is the playfield id already cleaned the playfield and ramps as best i could without removing anything so it doesnt look so bad if i can find the original photos i will post them aswell

Gday Daniel .
Will be very interested in this one . I want one of these one of these days .
Out of curiosity , how much did you get it for?

After seeing yours Wotto i think i will have to do the dmd panel mod. Also have something else in mind...
Quick question for CFTBL owners the metal bracket that holds the wirl pool ramp should that be nice and straight or all twisted? Ill start another help thread with a photo.
Here is the half stripped playfield
-
And the fully stripped playfield...
Also a dodgy camera phone photo of the Creature looks green to me &&
Any tips on how i should clean the hologram or should i just leave it???
-
here is the playfield after a little bit of mylar removal and a scrub then hit with the treasure cove kit. Really didnt need it but thats what i bought the kit for so i might aswell use it
-
I wasnt going to do the underside of the playfield just yet but to remove some of the mechs was just easier to do it all at once.
-
Ive never played this one but it look like your son made a great choice and Its good you guys are doing it together
looking fwd to end result Howzat @@*

Bracket that holds the whirlpool bowl should be straight.
Also don't risk using anything on the holo to clean it just dust it down with a dry duster any marks still left on after that dampen down the duster with lukewarm water and rub gently, then dry off with a clean dry soft cloth.
Looking real good so far, looks like she will clean up a treat.
Holo looks real good out of the machine (nice and green) Hope it looks as good when fitted. If not use a halogen upgrade bulb it will help the creature stand out if its a weak image.
Looking forward to the updates.
D.

Thanks for the info on the bracket ill bend it straight thats probably why my whirlpool would oly get one or two loops.
Also thanks aboout the hologram info. I was thinking of installing an LED downlight
Here are some updates started polishing some parts
-
and a few more shiney bits
-
Looking good Daniel ^^^
Whats your take on the treasure cove kit? worth the coin? Ive been thinking about getting one.
Cheers

To be honest Dave i really dont know. For areas covered with mylar its probably worth it but un mylared areas i seem to get the same result with novus and some elbow grease but being such a good playfield its really hard to tell... Sorry

Nice work mate, look forward to a few games when she is all done ^^^

that guy connected to flashers in the pop bumpers to the coils!!
Arnt coils 50V and flashers 12V?
Well... the flashers were really bright! lol
-
Here is the playfield half assembled. I added green post rubbers which im glad i did they look awsome. I kept the past etc orignial color but replaced them all with new parts Posts lane guides, bumper assemblies and caps.
Ive also added leds to the pop bumpers which i have wired into the Lamp matrix they flash along with the attract mode and stay on durning gameplay turning off whenever the bumpers are hit once i get the video onto you tube ill add a link
-
And here it is all back together. Ive left ll the original ramps on as i cant afford to buy all the rest at the moment no point putting on one new and 3 old ramps.
Ive added a few Leds to some inserts but 90% are standard globes Leds just didnt cut it in my opinion. Also added stcickers to the snackbar targets.
Its only a test setup at the moment but ive installed a LED household down light for the creature lamp. Its very bright but makes the creature bright blue !!!
-
Ive also added my custom 1957 Chev to the playfield the light flash to the MOVE YOUR CAR insert
-
Here is the video of the Bumper lamps and car mod

Looks very nice Daniel, well done. With the hologram, might be worth experimenting with some of the ideas here

Like your hologram, mine looked perfectly green outside of the game but bluey green in the game. I have had improved results with the green mirror, but need to muck about a bit more with the setup
-
Looks great Daniel cant believe how quick you completed all this .

Thats so funny was just discussing this with my brother wonderinf if covering the mirror with green celofane might help low and behold some one has already made a kit and great price aswell wonder if postage will be he killer.
Thanks for the links
As for getting it done so quickly having my son wash and dry all the parts reallly helps. As he is washing im polishing the playfield and all the metal parts. usually have it bak together by teh time he has washed and dried everything then i polish each part that he has washed as i put them on. ALso having a drill with all the right fittings really speeds things up aswell
-
It cost me just under $35 US for that Game Stencils kit including postage Daniel around six months or so ago.
-
Nice work mate, love the mods, did you have a go at flame polishing the ramps?
-
Looks great Daniel ^^^ . .Love the mods . I am jealous . .. I want one of these
-
Thanks for the comments guys.
No i didnt bother flame polishing the ramps as i want to replace them with new ones ASAP i have done a couple of other ramps and its really amazing how good they come up but man you have to be careful LOL

-
Watching this with interest, theres a CFTBL between my house and my daughter's school, we often stop off on the way home for a couple of games. Challenging game.
-
Bump for wotto.

Cool machine Mate ^^^

Bump for wotto.
Thanks Daniel - car mod looks very cool to be honest - now U have me thinking again damn you man ^.^
Dont mind the flashing bumpers either but that job seemed a little ( electronically ) daunting to me !@#
-
If you do it my way wotto its a piece of cake.
-
Looks good Daniel, i want to do the flashing bumpers as well.
Mine doesn't have the hologram, and I have used a model but I sed one of those ablaze 9 green LEDs in the light socket to get the green light - has anyone tried that as alternative to the green mirror ?

Earlier I posted about a green filter between the Halogen light source & the mirror. It makes my blue/green hologram really green again.
I'd be very interested to see/hear how using a 3D model in lieu of a f**ked hologram went, as some of my mates are in this fix.
Thanks

Thanks Swinks
I see that I had read that post with all the info.
My holo is fine but my memory is rooted.

OK - I cant work out why they/ we/ someone....cant just come up with a way of creating a larger version of the small CFTBL model that is used in Monster Bash and make a kit / complete replacement for the original CFTBL dead holgram problem !@#
It is 2012 FFS #@#

Full mecha-tronics style with moving arms, legs, eyes, gills and mouth...
That would be AWESOME

Thats a bit exy for a holo
-
Especially for a hologram that doesn't have much detail and some would say looks more like a green mummy that the Creech.
Thats a bit exy for a holo

If it was an exact replica no worry's

I have seen this in the flesh.
BEFORE we knew it was 'the' replica , my mate and I laughed at how GOD DAMN AWFUL the particular 'green blob' was that we were looking at.
THEN we were advised we were looking at a repro.
It was truly tragic ^.^
I wouldnt pay ONE buck for it
-
Thats a bit exy for a holo
Beautifully understated.
That substitute holo price is outright extortion ^.^
For that kind of coin, I would rather undertake Hoopstar's idea and build/adapt a full mechatronic model driven from the existing motor/cam plus servos.
When my holo eventually fails, I problably will . . .

I have seen a green Creature Toy placed inside with the right LED light facing onto the hologram toy and have seen results so close, u wouldnt even know. But it did take a good 3 to 4 hours of mucking around. If it meanssaving some money, why not experiment. (how about a pink or multi coloured halo just to be different (disco creature.lol %.%)
The reproduction that Daz (Cow Corner) used on his CFTBL before he sold it cost only a few hundred and it was also very good. From the USA from memory.
I think some people place too much importance on the hologram, its only on a little bit during gameplay and if u blink, u always miss it. For $445, it would want to wash the car and make the breakfast every day for that money. A good playfield and some nice bling/upgrades/mods on the Creature make for a far better investment. Hasnt CFTBL come up in price. A few years ago, u couldnt get any more than $1800 to $2100. These days, they seem very liked indeed.
Certaiunly a nice looking a machine thats for sure. ^^^
