Nothing happens when I push the credit button
« on: May 08, 2011, 12:20:26 PM »
Hi all,

I have an issue with my meteor, when I push the credit button, the game doesn't start.
I've the alltek board in it, I've rebuilt the transformer. I have rebuilt the coin door
The machines starts up it has 7 chimes, the credit switches work, it' got me stuffed.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Please help

Thanks

OK, first make sure you have credits (should show in the credit window).

Now go into switch test mode.  Make sure all targets are up and the ball removed.  There should be a flashing '0' in the Ball in Play window, if not you have a stuck switch, which you will need to identify from the manual and fix.  If the switch does work in test mode, and you have credits, you most likely have a CPU problem (unlikely).

Once you have the flashing '0', push and hold the credit button in - if the switch is working, the appropriate switch number should show up in the window.  If it does not, look for the following:  broken wires from the credit switch (check each wire colour to other switches on the coin door - a break anywhere can be the problem, eg someone removing a coin switch wire and separating the two wires); credit switch contacts not meeting (visual check); poor connection for the door connector just inside the cab; poor connection on the CPU (one of the right hand connectors - follow the wire colours); broken/cold solder joints on the CPU for the switch wires.

Hope this helps.

Ian

Ok I've done the test "0" is flashing I push other switches and the switch number comes up on the screen, but when I press the credit button nothing shows up. I've checked for continuity thru the plug and all the way to the MPU and it checks out fine. Could it be the mpu? It's a new alltek one.

Another thing the diode on the switch, could the direction that it Is wired in affect it?

To test the cpu, put the game in switch test mode and remove the switch matrix plug (J3). Carefully jump the two pins that correspond to the credit button and the credit button switch should show on the display.

cheers

 ^&^Ok, I've jumped J3-2 & j3-14  pins together and sure enough switch 06 displays ( credit button )
I then decided to put a wire in each of the 2 connections on the plug and connect them to my meter and checked for continuity by opening and closing the switch, that was fine.So I the decided to restart the pin, left the J3 plug in, then jumped the J3-2 & J3-14 and bang, the game started.

I then checked the voltage at the switch, it is just over 1.1 volts. Is it fair to say that the MPU doesn't recognize the switch due to low voltage?

I would look at the possibility that the pins in the J3 Connector have fatigued. You could lightly sand the connector (on the MPU) with some 320 Grit sandpaper, and visually check the connector pins in J3, Could also be dry solder joints on the connector.

A simple test would be to "wiggle" the connector while the credit switch is on.

Wiggle test as highlighted the problem area. Sanding the connector will be a temp fix. Might work for a day, a week or a year. See how you go !

Well done - enjoy your machine  ^^^
