Yeah, I wondered about those, maybe they are watching through eyes of paintings from concealed wall cavities. Scary hey?

That's entirely up to the user. You can have your online status "hidden" if you choose. This is common practice on all forums. Nothing to be "scared of".

I'm still confused what a Guest is, are they a registered user that chooses to be seen as a guest or someone that visits the site. But if they are someone that is a visitor they can't seen anything can there. I know if I log off and then try to have a look everything is locked??????

If you press the little 3 person icon to the left of the list of active users or guests, you can see what the guests are doing at that point of time.
