Massive thanks to "Humpalot" who helped out with 2 displays.. #*#

The game has all the parts except the legs.. At this point we are looking at rechroming a set from Mark, or buying a new set from PBR.

Update tonight !

Playfield Update

The task of completing the underside of the playfield is almost done. The bumper bodies have to be installed and the lamp sockets soldered into place to be able to install the bumper coil assemblies. Before doing that, the large Target assembly has to be installed. If it is done in the wrong order, then it will be difficult to screw in the drop target switches mounted on the assembly.

Here's a progress picture of the underside before installing the large target bank, and a picture of the topside of the playfield after 3 coats of Meguiars Paste Wax.

The relays have also been cleaned and rebuilt. No corrosion and the contacts have been cleaned;

Three coats of Wax - It looks a bit dull due to the photo. It is very nice "up close". Notice the spot targets have not been replaced. There's a six week wait from PBR from the time of the order. So the old ones are cleaned as a temporary measure so that the game can be completed.

The smaller target bank is installed - with new targets. Bumper body etc are new. All the contact switches are individually cleaned and gapped - metal forms are tumbled. The playfield is an EASY 9/10.. All the art is intact, no wear and no fade..

Large Target Bank

This was a bit of a challenge due to the size of the parts. It would be hard to soak the larger section to remove the corrosion. It took a bit of time to complete, but it was worth it. I ended up using an ice cream container and a toothbrush.. I then used a wire brush on my bench grinder. Here's what I started with ;

After a bit of elbow grease, the assembly was coming together nicely ;

Finished product with new targets installed ;

I'll be fitting the assembly and finally the bumper coil assemblies tonight and the saga that was the underside of the playfield is done...

Finally the nightmare of removing rust and corrosion are O V E R... and I can finally spend some time on the top of the playfield. Just about EVERYTHING is new. If it is not - Then it has been cleaned and polished. Here are some progress pictures...

Note the playfield plastics still have the protective film on them..

For those of you with a keen eye - Yes the spot targets look crap. Creech is organizing a NOS set as we speak..

There's still plenty left to do - Like repin EVERY connector for the PI-X4 and re fitting the light panel for the head...

But it now looks good, so there's a major milestone achieved...

 :D

Holy moly. I can't believe what you've done with it. Can't wait to get it home.

I'm still waiting on a reply from John Robertson about the bullseye targets by the way.

Awesome job.  I played that game at expo 2 years ago in pinbrawl and fell in love with it.  That is a fine example.

The Light at the end of the tunnel is definitely visible now... BIG UPDATE .... Lots of pictures because I cannot be stuffed typing  <.>

Backbox

The light panel which holds the lights and displays was a mess and had to be stripped. While it was stripped of all parts, I sanded the back section with emery cloth, and painted the front white. Only a couple of coats, but it will make the illumination of the backglass even and more pronounced.. All the light sockets and display standoffs were replaced with new (Thanks Greg).. Back to the reverse side - the ground braind was corroded and had a green tinge to it. I soaked it in Ranex for 15 minutes and it came up as good as new.. So I reused it. I stapled the ground braid with a furniture staple gun - just a mechanical gun - nothing fancy.

Here's the front ;

The rear section with the new sockets;

The rear section with the wiring installed ;

Pascal PI-X4 Board installation

"My hands are F%^king killing me".... ^.^

Even pin in every connector that connects to the Pascal Board has been replaced. That means that the machine will be super reliable. These are times when you REALLY need the good quality crimpers - as they make life a lot easier.. This picture was taken after the game was working 100 % with all the connectors done and all voltages checked... Note I have a habit of writing the date on the connectors..

POWER UP

This was done in a phased approach..

First test the input voltages.. ok
Insert J2 into the Pascal board - Power up - Great - it works
Insert the backbox connectors to test GI - Worked
Install the playfield, connect the power (GI / Coil) - Worked
Test all the coils AGAIN

So now insert all connectors - power up the machine and she works !!! I just had to change the Game from it's factory config of "Genie", to "Sinbad"...

So after all this work - I know the game is almost done... Here's some pictures from Today's effort..

Testing the GI and player 1 display - Scary stuff - Three displays out, but I re charged the three that were not working and they are fine.. Thanks to Mick (Humpalot), for the ONLY displays that worked on first power on..

No Flash - All the lamp sockets are new - so they all work 100%..

After a few games - there's My High Score.... Yes the game works and I played a few games tonight !

Playfield Shots

I had a few issues with the light sockets for the bonus count... The sockets were really poor and I had to soak them in ranex and gently sand them, but the earth strap was very poor. I ended up with a length if wire to each socket and then to the ground point and they all work fine. There's a few niggling problems I will have to deal with, but the game is playable;

With Flash..

Without flash...

What a great game to play - brought back a flood of memories...

Just a few things to go and it will be ready...

 :D

All I can say is SUPERB!

How do you re-charge displays? First time I've heard of that being done.
