Pinball Magazine No. 2 is here: 188 full color glossy pages.
This Issue focuses on two special guests. The cover story spotlights the career of pinball designer Dennis Nordman (White Water, Pirates of the Caribbean, Blackwater 100, Party Animal, Indianapolis 500 and other titles).
Dennis is joined by graphic artist Greg Freres. The two of them joined forces on Elvira and the Party Monsters, Dr. Dude, The Party Zone, Scared Stiff and Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy Melons. In this issue they discuss Dennis’ career in pinball and share some fascinating inside stories and insights about the pinball industry.
The magazine is packed with exclusive photos provided by both Dennis and Greg. You'll find images of what Dennis originally had in mind for the chest in Pirates of the Caribbean, Dennis' original mockups for White Water, Transformers and Big Buck Hunter, early artwork and sketches for Elvira and the Party Monsters and Dr. Dude and lots more.
People who are close to Dennis and Greg have added color as well: pinball designers John Popadiuk and Steve Ritchie, graphic artists Pat McMahon, Doug Watson and John Youssi, sound designer Chris Granner, technical right hands Mark Weyna and Ken Walker and Multimorphic’s Gerry Stellenberg.
Roger Sharpe, who was spotlighted in Issue 1, also wrote a contribution and we were able to compile an interview with Cassandra ‘Elvira’ Peterson.
There are plenty of other articles too. We felt the balance between the cover story and the other articles in Issue 1 wasn't quite right, so this time the emphasis is on more variety.
Here’s what you'll find:
- Custom Games: Wade Krause and Dirty Donny comment on their Beatniks Koolsville game.
- An interview with Dave Peterson, head of the investment group that bought stern Pinball in 2009.
- Randy Perlow and Chris Enright talk on how they created ColorDMD.
- Pinball News editor Martin Ayub talks about the history of the No. 1 news website pinballnews.com
- Bobby King talks about the success and future plans of popular game/app The Pinball Arcade
- Rob Berk and Mike Pacak talk about the history of, and organizing, the longest running annual pinball show: Pinball Expo
- Founder Robert Ilvento talks about The Silverball Museum in Asbury Park, NJ
- Paul Rubens contributed a story about a huge arcade find on an abandoned ship
- Nic Parks talks about The Pinball Company, supplying completely restored pinball machines for the high end of the market
- As a remarkable accessory Darren Brehm discusses his Pinball Armor
- Who’s working on what?
- And much, much more!
Long story short: Pinball Magazine No. 2 is even more of a book than Issue 1 already was.

Ordered the 2 mag deal just now. #*#
Postage was 13.76 euro, but I can't complain too much when the Aussie $ is on the slide. Damn be to all those things I was going to buy when the $ was around $1.06, but decided to hold off a while ^&^ ^&^

Ordered both last night. Works out to $27.23 per Magazine.

Roy Wils shot the following video of him unboxing the envelope of Pinball Magazine No. 2:
Please note the WoZ flyer was only included in the first batch and, as we ran out, will not be in future batches.
I also made an online preview magazine of Issue 2: http://issuu.com/pinballmagazine/docs/pinball_magazine_no._2_14-page_prev

-

Looks a bit thicker than the last edition !
-

-
Mine arrived yeserday.
Great mag!
Thanks
-
Magazine arrived yesterday.
I though No 1 was amazing.
No 2 has raised the bar.
It deserves a hard cover it is so much like a book.
-
I'm a bit slow of the mark this time around, just ordered today. Can't wait to see it.
-
Mine arrived but the paper packing was badly ripped - Aust Post (to their credit) wrapped the entire package in a strong plastic bag with a sticker saying "it arrived in Australia like this and we have repaired the packing"
I would suggest a stronger wrap - the packing is fantastic with the built in cardboard but maybe the paper needs to be more like the untearable plasticised stuff...?
Just a suggestion - fantastic BOOK!
-
Mine arrived yesterday too and I had real trouble getting it out of the letter box. I don't even know how the postman managed to get mine in there. I basically had to rip the packaging to get it out. Fortunately no damage done whatsoever to the magazine.
Gotta so just like the first issue it's very impressive (only read a bit last night so far). They are more like a book (quality paper and pictures etc etc) than a magazine and something that I would keep rather than ditch after skimming through it.
-
Mine arrived Tuesday and was jammed in the letterbox. All 4 corners of the envelope were torn off but luckily they were in plastic and only 1 has slight damage on the bottom corner. If it was any worse I would have been very disappointed. Hopefully future issues could be put in a tougher bag etc.
-
Jonathan,
If you put a "Do not bend" sticker on the envelope, it should then go back for a postal pick up by the owner. That should stop the posties here doing the tight letterbox squeeze (one would hope).
-
I'm glad copies are arriving. Hope you all enjoy reading the magazine. I'm already looking into stronger envelopes. I'll see if I can find some "do not bend" stickers as well.
In the mean time: Check out the updated feedback on Pinball Magazine No. 2. The second batch of magazines will ship early next week. If you order your copy prior to Monday it will still be shipped in Batch 2. See www.pinball-magazine.com for all info and feedback comments.

Now I'm worried, when Homepin, in one of the worst delivery areas, get his before me!! I'm assuming we both ordered when No.2 was announced.
-
I'm an advertiser - possibly mine was dispatched earlier than others?

Your great Mike. Well done mate
-
I've added a "deluxe shipping box" to the webshop, which should prevent any bending. It turns pout to be not the easiest to assemble, so we'll see how it holds up in some deliveries of Batch 2 (which will ship this Tuesday).
-
Batch 2 shipped out yesterday. Incoming orders will ship in batch 3, in about 3-4 weeks.
-
just got mine....a lot to read and look at! well done. Jpop

Pinball Soul interviewed me for their Podcast, which is now available online: http://pinballsoul.com/pinball-soul-podcast-11/ It's quite a lengthy interview, but would you expect anything different from me? ;) Enjoy!
-
Yes I listen to their podcasts when I'm driving my B Double around
-
Check out the 41st Episode of the Spooky Pinball Podcast. Besides an interview with Bowen and Mark from PAPA, I am also interviewed by Charlie about my pinball background and making Pinball Magazine. http://www.spookypinball.com/

While the next shipment of Pinball Magazine No. 2 was scheduled for mid-late August, it looks like we may already be shipping early next week :) If you haven't ordered a copy yet, now is a good time to do so: www.pinball-magazine.com
For those interested: during the upcoming weekend I may be reporting "live" on the same website from the UK Pinball Party where George Gomez is scheduled as well. However, I don't want to compete with Pinballnews, so if Martin is reporting I'll just recommend his website :)
-
My Magazine got delivered today in the new cardboard box you mentioned and there is not a blemish on them at all!,pristine in fact!
Great work, well done and thanks for such a great read!

For those interested: Next week the December shipment of Pinball Magazine will ship out the door. Orders should arrive prior to Christmas. Please note that we're using new envelopes to ensure the magazines arrive in good condition. Next week's shipment may also be the last for 2013 and possibly the last until Pinball Magazine No. 3 comes out. That will still take a few months, so if you're interested order your copy now on www.pinball-magazine.com.
Thanks!
Jonathan
