« on: October 26, 2008, 09:25:27 PM »
Hi Guys ,I'm chasing to buy the best mirrored finished balls on the market ,I want to replace the balls that are supplied with the new sterns as they are pretty crapy .I bought a TZ a while back and the balls that come with that pin are awesome, mirrored to the max "Brilliant" if I only knew where to get them .
I need 2 types of balls for magnet and non magnet pins .

The Mirror Glazed balls are really nice, and are great for machines that have magnets. I do find that they "bounce" more than the standard balls - they tend to hit the glass more often.

I'm pretty sure Mark (Childs) has them - www.pinballspareparts.com.au
Or Greg (RTBB) - www.rtbb.com.au

I used to get sexy Mandy at AMD here in QLD to get mine for me. Alas, she no longer works in the industry, but she used to get them shipped from AMD Sydney

When did Many leave AMD (QLD)?

She was really nice to deal with, but I haven't called her in a few years now...

She left a couple of years back - hooked up with a guy and landed on a large property somewhere.
I rang AMD a while back and asked for Mandy. Geoff ( is it?) told me she had moved on. As far as i know, she has not been replaced.
There was also a rumour that AMD QLD may be shutting down, but i dont think this is true, i think they are sharing the shed with another company now.
Mandy was cool to deal with and a visit to AMD had the extra benefit of going to see Mandy ( plus she'd let me play the games in the showroom downstairs).

....She is sorely missed....

I've never met her personally, but I know some people in QLD that have... makes me wish I had made the trip before she left  &&

She almost always knew the part(s) I was after at the time, which is a nice change for the majority of parts places in Aus.

I agree, she is sorely missed!

Yes - mandy getting the rubbers from the bottom cabinet draw was a bonus - interesting tattoo she had. And yes - she knew her stuff. I think i was her only customer who would buy white rubbers.
She worked on a commission basis but ALWAYS did me a deal.
She also gave me a run down on the sharks in the industry and who to avoid or at least be careful doing business with. She was GREAT - i never go to AMD now that shes gone.

But everything , including the mirror finish balls would come up from head warehouse in sydney

Another option you have is to buy stock balls and throw them in a tumbler or vibrating brass cleaner.  I do this with all my used pinballs about once a year and they come out looking like the mirror glazed balls do.  You generally have to leave them in the tumbler for about 48 hours.  I use walnut media saturated in ruby red.  After you are done just throw out any balls that have deep scratches and buy new ones.  In the long run you save money and you have to do this to mirror glazed balls after a bit anyway.

we do this to all the Pinballs here. every pinball that comes in goes in for a few days
then we even buff them to bring up the shine more

It probably is, but I doubt it would be noticeable... maybe if you have really good digital callipers you could measure it to see.
