Title: Apron Rust removal
Post by: The pinballist formally known as Dean Morgan on December 08, 2008, 09:46:19 PM
Is there anyway to remove rust from Gottlieb Aprons and the steel white piece at the top of the playfield without removing paint?  Or does it have to be sanded and re-sprayed?  If so how do you paint the Gottlieb stuff back on the apron?

Hi Dean,

I got the apron on my T2 redone a while ago.  The factory screen print on it had worn.  I purchased an apron decal set (from o/s) and had a mate paint it (2-pac).  Turned out real nice!

My mate that did it wasn't happy (being the perfectionist) and wanted to rub the clear back again for another hit....

I'm planning to redo the Police Force one as well...Just waiting for xmas then I'll get the decal and post the results!

Would your mate be intersted in doing a white 2 pac job?  I would pay him?  If he is interested what sought of cost would be involved?

Did you sand back to bare metal?  Of did you use a paint stripper?

As they others stated this apron of yours looks nice...best ive seeen,

Dean

I know Gavin here is offering a new service for apron resto's, so I don't want to be taking business from him!   ^^^

I'll be speaking to him next week so I'll I will enquire, and as to the exact process which was done.  From memory he wanted mine 'as is' as he prefers to sand / clean himself.  It was then painted the deep black, cleared, decals applied then cleared a couple more times.

With my next one, we will probably take out the middle clear as the decals has the slightest reaction to it.
