Which fuse lights pop bumpers on gottlieb system 80?
« on: February 18, 2013, 10:55:44 PM »
Hey guys,

I have a gottlieb system 80 (James bond) and the coin door lights and pop bumpers no longer light up (all other lights seem ok) so I'm thinking I've blown a fuse (maybe?)

Anybody know which fuse I should check/replace??

Cheers
Johno

never mind worked it out with my trusty multimeter. was F2. is a 10A fuse but oly had an 8A to replace it with tonight (but it works).

I assume if I take the old 10A into Jaycar they will have an appropriate 10A replacement?????

They will have the fuse.

My JB manual unfortunately does not have the fuse listings. Of then system 80 games I have/have had, F2 was a slo blow 5 amp (HH, BH & Spirit), although checking a few other manuals, the only other one I could find with fuse listings was Volcano with an 8 amp slo blow.

Hopefully someone has a better answer - but I would not put a 10 in there, suggest either the 8 as it might be the same as Volcano, or conservatively, the 5.

For what its worth, from the Black Hole manual

F1 Sound, Speech Power Supply 12V AC   1/2 Amp Slow Blow

F2 Power Supply 10V AC       5 Amp Slow Blow

F3 Displays 60V AC   1/4 Amp Slow Blow

F4 Solenoids 25V AC  8 Amp Slow Blow

F5 Controlled Lamps 8V AC  10 Amp

F6 Playboard Illumination 6.3V AC  10 Amp Slow Blow

F7 Lightbox 6.3V AC   15 Amp Slow Blow

F8 Sound/Speech Power Supply 24V DC  1 Amp Slow Blow

Note: F8 is not used in foreign games

I need more room ! and more $$$

Ok. Mine has the info re each fuse underneath the fuses as in the photo.

F2 says is 10A so I'm assuming I need a 10A fuse?? Or will 8A be ok?
I'm confused now.

Ok, looks like different fuses for different SYS80 games .

In your case you can use 8A if you want to err on the side of caution (worst thing that can happen is fuse will blow.. doubtful though) or use a 10A as per the label

Make sure it is *not* a slow blow fuse in this case.

i am confussed by this thread.why would you need a large 10A fuse for pop bumper lights?.me thinks that fuse is doing a lot more than just lighting.if that is the case? more "stuff" would not work. ^&^

fuse f6 in your machine has been replaced at some stage with a new holder.check the two wires connected to the top lug.it looks like the gry/blk should belong on f2 not f6.bothe f2 and f6 have been poorly soldered.Just my opinion, mate.but it doesnt look right.

fuse F2 says it is for playboard illumination and is a 10A fuse. Will I be good with the 8A I have replaced it with or should I go get a 10A??

interesting question..they do not make a 8.3 or 9.3 amp fuse, for example so if the designer calculates that the intended circuit could be 8A+ then a 10A would be specified.but if there is no problem in the cicuit then the 8A will be fine.if it were me i would but 5 each of every value of fuse incase another problem exists or eventuates fron time.

Go with a 10 Amp. An 8 Amp will not last.
