Sucker Shot
« on: December 03, 2008, 10:26:09 PM »
Ok would like to know the machine and calssic "sucker shot" where every time you see the opening, you just can't help but try the shot and wham SDTM or something like that.

An example for me is the DEAD ZONE on TZ. I can have a monster of a game/ball going and the minute its lit I have to take the shot. More times than not it bye bye ball time.

Would like to hear of other classics out there to note down and then not take heed when faced with the same shot!!

Scared Stiff - "Stiff-O-Meter"... Heart beating in the background, and all you have to do is one last coffin / ramp shot and the ball hits an up post and sdtm...

LOL!! Pretty much any Gtb EM from mid 70's - big open pf above the flippers and more often than not a spinner or drop down bang in the middle, go through spinner or bounce off drop and its SDTM!

I have a WMS Space Station that has a single drop target to hit before you can enter the ramp on RHS. Cant help myself even though the little voice is telling me not to be stupid, but from left flipper, you can really smack this down hard and i do it every time.
ball hits target with gusto and if the right flipper isnt in the up position quick its goodbye ball.
Bloody kick myself every time, and yet i do it at least once every game

The "sucker shot" on my Judge Dredd machine is hitting the post to the right of the JUDGE bank targets, it will always drain SDTM. It drives me nuts, especially because I can hit it from both main flippers and from the top RHS mini-flipper  @.@

That reminds me of the "sucker Shot" on Sinbad - Not exactly a "shot", but an instant drainer.. When plunging the ball at full extension, the ball hits the ball arch rubber, then bounces across the arch and back, it then drops down the lane on the LHS "full speed", then hits the mini post at the end of the lane and then deflects across to the RHS of the playfield and then straight down the RHS outlane..

So the ball drains without you ever playing a shot? Damn.

No shot, and you score 1,300 for the ball..

Medusa is very similar.. Full force with the plunger is 90% chance of a drain ball...

I shouldn't give away that one just in case anyone has a game on it !

Say that again...WHAT??? If its that involved you deserve to lose a ball!!!

That's not a sucker shot, that's a sucker machine. If I had to put money in it, I can tell you now, it'd be in pieces before I left the site.

Ask Mark - he had a game on Tuesday... Very funny to watch.

Secret is you have to use half the tension on the plunger so the ball enters the lanes guides, not the "longest outlane" in the machine !

A few potential sucker shots on EBD:-
right flipper on to 2x bonus target, especially if you hit it near the middle of the target - potential SDTM;
left flipper into drop target bank - if you get the angle wrong the ball can easily drain down one of the outlanes or SDTM;
eight ball shot, especially if missed, can go SDTM.

F14 Tomcat (whats the pin abbreviation for this game %.%) it has two kill targets directly in the centre (mid PF) hit them straight on and its goodbye charlie (STDM), you have to either hit them left or right of centre.

The targets on FP (1-6) can make a game end very quickly if you go straight at them.

The right ramp on T2 , if you don't fully make the ramp shot can be a bitch to dig out when it comes back.
