Pinbot: Controlled solenoids problem - F2 blowing
« on: September 26, 2014, 06:24:03 PM »
Hi all,

I have an issue with my Pinbot. On power up there are solenoids locked on and fuse F2 blows. If I power up with 1J12 disconnected the fuse is OK and all the solenoids test OK except the controlled solenoids (9-16).

What else can I try to help narrow down the problem?

Thanks in advance, SV.

I'd say you have a coil diode shorted, or a dead short in a coil winding. Test every coil with a multimeter.

Strangeways, thanks for the reply.

I tested all the coils with a DMM and they are ok.

I tested the transistors on the CPU (one end on the tab of the transistor and the other on the ground strap) and I think Q9 is bad. Do you think replacing this would be a good place to start?

As I said, several solenoids are locked on at power up - some flashers, the knocker and maybe some others, I didn't leave the game on long enough to get a good look. Is there a safe way to test what is locking on when the game is powered on?
