Pop bumper cap melt down!!
« on: March 16, 2010, 06:59:40 PM »
Hi Guys,

Im a collector of the SS bally machines, one of the problems I am finding is the lights that stay on the pop bumpers get really hot and start to melt the caps. !*!
Kiss is alright as they turn on and off when played, but playboy and stones stay on.
I have tryed the 47# bulbs but they burn out.
Has any one tryed LED lights? do they get hot and will they fit?

Look forward to your replies.

Thank you.

It will be the globe socket / holder. You can change them to the 555 sockets or LEDs. Or you can keep them original with new socket holders. Our sponsors will carry them !

LED's work fine with almost no heat.  The only problem is the different 'colour' of the light, which can look strange with some caps.

cheers

i dont know if you can buy off the shelf B.C. or wedge leds that have the same color temp as incandecent lamps but I know there are standard white 5 mm roumd leds that are very close in color to the incandecent lamps (instead of a blueish tinge they have the browny yelloish tinge of a normal lamp)
I used to use these a few years back for a company that made bud lights. (they were sent by mistake from our suppliers)

unfortunatly i dont have any left in stock or i would have taken a photo of each led lit and you would have seen the difference in the light color

I have used the Cointaker 4+1 LEDs in my 90s DMD games with colored caps and they work very nicely.

I match the LED color to the cap color and the color they output matches the caps color nearly perfectly.

In older games, though, I'm not sure what you'd do.

If the LED saves the cap from burning, but it looks awful, what's the point? Do you want an ugly game that won't burn, or a game that's ugly, but won't burn?

Hi
Go here:

I used these bulbs in my SS Solar Ride and they work excellent, ZERO heat, and you dont have to change the socket, the fit straight in, good for all lighting.
I wont use anything else now.
