Title: Anyone else been banned from AA recently??
Post by: v8racefan on March 31, 2010, 02:02:46 PM
Just wondering if any other member here had been banned from AA in recent times??

No explanation given?? very weird??

I collect arcade machine as used to lurk around on there and enjoyed reading restoration & for sale posts etc. I never posted their much as I tend to spend most of my spare time posting here.

I'm NOT trying to stir anything up between the 2 sites, I'm just trying to understand why??

Maybe you should get an AA member here to ask over there. There are plenty on here that can do that for you.

So can we ask exactly who has been banned recently from AA?

Send an email to one of the admins.

Me

When I log in I can't view any of the posts?? Comes up with a server error?? !@#

I'm really not too concerned, as this place is the only place I generally post anyways.

If I had to choose between arcade machines or pinball machines, I'd choose Pinball all day long!!!!, however they do both complement each other.  The fact that I can't access AA anymore, doesn't bother me, as I'll just spend more time here at Aussie Pinball.

I say a server error would be different than
a login not working.

Try from another computer.
or
Register a new login and see if that works,

Yeah, as mentioned, best to email one of the guys who run it. I was just pushed out by a password change long ago, although following my own advice and asking why was not exactly successful, I got no reply. Yours might have been a clean up of lurkers?

I suspect if a member was banned from a site running forum software - be it SMF or Vbulletin I suspect when the account was accessed a message would deny login and state 'you have been banned' or email admin re your account being locked.

Admins periodically do clean outs of dormant accounts - if one has not been accessed or if there is multiple accounts from a single I.P etc.

If you are receiving a server error, it could be a couple of things - ie your account has corrupted or a database problem on the server end.

I would suggest to delete all temporary internet files and cookies and try again.

Definately email the forum administrators as well - primarily regarding your account (and for the security of their site) if there are issues with the backend user database or it may simply be a software issue.

Not always the case Marty. There is a mod for SMF (which we can't install) as well as vB called "Miserable Users". Basically it causes a pre-defined list of users to get server time-outs. That's possibly what happened here.

He he he...I can't wait to get vB!  $#$

Both websites are good.  Aussie Pinball just happens to be great !

I think Leon's (V8racefans) blocking is more a computer hassle than anything.

I promised lots of knuckle sandwiches to WG when i was on AA and I never got banned.
A few of his girlfriends wrote me emails but i never got banned.  @.@

Its funny how things turn out, isnt the keyboard commando himself now banned from AA.
I guess who knows. who cares.  %.% %.%

Both sites are very useful.  ^^^ ^^^ ^^^

AA is a great forum.
Both forums offer differ people, and different topics. As a member of both I dont like either rubbished without good reason.

Brett - your threats we pretty tame compared to RGP!

Wayneo? Some poor guy asked how to build a DIY cocktail cab - your mate jumped down the guys throat... Why would you bother, what an idiot etc. (TPF is selling them complete $1200). That was the last straw IIRC...

I can see his logic - why would you DIY for $3-500? - when you can buy one for $1200...  !!@ !!@ !!@

Careful mate. Santas little helpers may report back to Santa and then no more parts for you! Next!

its a shame really, cause anyone in business should be nothing but friendly and helpful to everyone, everytime. thats where WG failed unfortunately.
?? maybe outside of business, he might be a nice bloke. i dont know.
one day i might pop in and say "would you like to have a beer with someone who once wanted to put you in a forrest, lets start from fresh".

A few people have given me heaps in the past because i always praise mark c for his great business practices.
a nice guy who goes outta his way all the time to help anyone out. and i am sure mark would always be the same, money or not.

thats why i love this hobby so much. lots of first class people contributing to the forum, great sponsors and a few good blokes like creech and the other mods who make all this happen with the technical side of things. when it all gets down to it, even though we sometimes have our differences, we all look after each other and stick up for each other. Aussie Pinball is a part of us all, and we are a part of it.

its a breath of fresh air when u come home from a long days work and log into the forum and ya get to chat to all ya mates who have a love and passion for all things pinball. Both AA and AP provide alot of people with alot of enjoyment, and thats a bloody nice thing in my opinion.  ^^^ ^^^ ^^^

"Miserable Users".

Well that explains me perfectly, on either site, or on any site anywhere :D.

Yeah I know... And I don't frequent RGP so he can pay out on me, damn shame!  :lol

He shouldn't be too pissed - I was active in the thread that got him kicked off, so tell me I am talking shit at your peril Mr G.

But yes you are right mate:

I am sorry Mr G. The pinball world would cease to exist were you to leave us... Please stay and... what does he do again?  :lol  (Don't answer Brett - this is a G rated forum...)

I used to have an AA account - that is where I started; and through AA I met Dave (Silverball) and Zivko, from whom I purchased my first pinball machines.

But when AP first started it had a better feel and obviously concentrated on pinball, whereas I wasn't really interested in arcade games. After a while I felt I could only afford the time to be on one forum so I let my account on AA lapse.

I do really enjoy AP, great bunch of friendly and knowledgeable blokes (and occasional blokess) who really love pinball, and who are willing to go out of their way to help each other.

Just for info...

vBulletin 4.0 Version

Please remember to click Mark as Installed if you use this modification.
Please fee free to nominate this modification for the MOTM, and/or use the donate link provided (Support Developer).

The ever popular "Miserable Users" modification.

Basically a way to really annoy anyone you don't want visiting your forum. Credit to Zzed for the original idea.

When classed as miserable, a member suffers ;

1. Slow response (time delay) on every page (20 to 60 seconds default).
2. A chance they will get the "server busy" message (50% by default).
3. A chance they will get redirected to another preset page (25% & homepage by default).
4. A chance they will simply get a blank page (25% by default).

If they get past all this okay, then they will be served up their proper page.

Note: All the above are set in vBulletin Options > Miserable Users.

Peace, Greg.
Maybe you missed the silly gag?
I was referring to the original AA (Alcoholics Anonymous)
Being a recovered drinker myself, I hope AA will not be annoyed.
I have no quibbles at all with the other forum.

I've just had a pm from one of the mods/admin from AA, seems it was my mistake after all!!! ^&^. As EB posted in future I will just contact the mods for access help.

Sorry for posting this topic!

Anyways all is sorted now and I can once again access Aussie Arcade.

Happy Easter everyone, AP mods please feel free to close this thread/topic.
