Nice work so far, will follow your progress with interest. If you find a source for the ball gates at each of the return lanes, please let me know as my project game is missing these too.

Excellent work ! Replacing the lower back panel is tedious, but needs to be done. Takes a lot of time, but worth it in the end. Like with all restores - take your time.

A tip with Fathom and Centaur - Be CAREFUL once you have painted the cabinet as the top ball gate WILL chip off a small section of the headbox trim. This can happen raising and lowering the cabinet.

Keep up the good work !

@ddtoys here are some photos showing both gates at the flipper return lanes. I'm in need of both and I believe pinoffski would too based on his photos.

Bugger. Thanks for looking  though. Extremely hard to find.  Perhaps Haggis will have parts available in the future.

I didn't realize how much work goes into a cab restore
never done anything like this unsure on what paint i am going to use satin is the most forgiving
would like it close to original as i can get
or if someone would like to share there paint colour that they used would be goodmarked the pantone chart with a x of the colours

I just take the cabinet to my paint supplier and get the colours matched and mixed.. easy peasy and they usually get the match pretty damn close. 90% of the time i'm doing a total repaint so it doesn't have to match 100% i tell them.

That blue you've chosen looks pretty good to me, i'd be happy with it. I have a Fathom coming up in the queue for a repaint in the next few months myself!

Best part about doing a restore for yourself it really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks  mate.

   Looks good to me

They also provide the correct finish as well as subtle details. An example is the purple fleck in the grey on a Quicksilver base. I was shocked at how right the color match and finish was.

Metal removed from your eye ? Damn. Are you all good now ? I once accidentally sprayed thinner in my eye and just the mist was so painful !

Having a rusty steel shard pulled out of your eyeball is something you never forget.

Eye is sort of ok .
had to go to a specialist in the end on Tuesday so it has been mucked around with again.

I suppose as you get older it takes more time to heal.

Fitter and machinist  so I have had this happen before  over a 30 + years in thè trade.

Will hopefully have the cab undercoted .
And maybe the first coat of blue..

Still plugging away on the cab

Every weekend it has been raining. Doh

Have made some progress after work.
Most days I finish at 5.30pm.
So it has been bloody frustrating as I would of liked to have the base colour on it.

Got some new stencils..
Was having a think and I thought I would put the playfield in my Centaur so l could play it sooner..
Change the back panel..
And a few boards.
Hook it up and play..
Hinge mech in a different position.
