Title: BUSHFIRE AID MEET & GREET
Post by: Geoffh on February 12, 2009, 04:51:02 PM
The last week has been a horrendous week for all Australia.
The loss of many millions of dollar worth of property and belongings and the incalculable loss of life whether they be relatives, friends, neighbors or just someone we read about we all feel the loss that this disaster has created.

Child Amusements in conjunction with Pinball Spare Parts, RTBB and Markc Auctions are putting this Meet and Greet together to aid the Bushfire Relief Fund who in turn will aid the people that have been left homeless and devastated by this disaster.

We feel that it is a time that all differences and rivalries should be put aside and we work as one to help these people.

We invite all members of Aussie Pinball Forum and Aussie Arcade Forum to a Meet and Greet to aid the Bushfire Victims.

It is to be held on Saturday 21st of February 2009 at Child Amusements premises between 2pm and 11pm

                    Child Amusements
                    6/176 Canterbury Rd
                    Bayswater North Vic 3153

Entry will be by donation of a minimum $5 per person
A sausage sizzle and soft drinks will be provided with a donation of at least $1 per item
Raffles will be held through out the day/night at $1 per ticket.

Prizes for the raffles will be donated by the businesses that are supporting this effort

          Child Amusements - www.childamusements.com.au
          Pinball Spare Parts - www.pinballspareparts.com.au
          RTBB - www.RTBB.com.au
          MarkC Auctions -http://stores.ebay.com.au/Childamusements-and-markc-PINBALLS

All monies raised will be donated to the Bushfire Relief Fund in the name of both Aussie Pinball and Aussie Arcade Forums.

If any other business or person feels that they may want to contribute to the day, whether it be by donation of raffle prizes or bringing along machines for people to play, please contact Mark at Enquiries@childamusements.com.au

We will have some nice Pinballs there as well as Arcade machines, Drivers and a couple of kiddie rides.

Here are some of the machine that will be available to play and peruse.

Cactus Canyon            Medieval Madness       Monster Bash
Guns 'n Roses             Safe Cracker               Shrek
Family Guy                 Sopranos                     Pirates of the Carribean
Austin Powers             Bugs Bunny                Lost in Space
Getaway                     Star Wars DE              Last Action Hero
Playboy                      Lord of the Rings          Theatre of Magic
Plus others

Twin Daytonas (3)
Sega Rally
Big Buck Hunter
Point Blank 2
Table Top games
Kiddie Rides (2)
plus other to be confirmed

We usually have 50 working pinballs in our showroom but many have been sold so we will be working hard to get as many going for the day. If need be we will bring our personal collections in for the day.

Everyone will be welcome from both forums and you can bring your friends or family as well. The more that come the more we raise.
The monies raised will be tallied on the night and the amount raised will be announced.

The businesses involved will also make a monetary contribution to the totals as well.

If any other businesses come on board we will make further announcements in this thread

So come one come all. Let’s see us as a community get together and do the best we can to raise as much as we can

Aussie Pinball will support any fundraiser that can assist those who have suffered from this disaster. Some members have lost loved ones and we need to support those who have survived and have nothing but the clothes on their backs.

It is the "Australian Way"

I dont think that anyone at aussiearcade.com.au has a problem with who is supporting this cause.
Provided its for the right reasons, the poor ppl suffering.

There has been a lot of positive action coming from aussiearcade.com.au as well as this site. @@*

I dont beleive that aussiearcade.com.au have a problem with sharing credit as such, its not about who did what first or who is involved.

Just to let everyone know who has doubts about our intention.

This Meet and Greet is a Red Cross authorised event.

There will be no business normal activities conducted during the Meet and Greet.

The aim is to raise as much as we can for the relief fund so our attention will be focused for that aim.

ways we are raising money are

Entry donation
Sales of sausages and drinks
A few minor raffles of donated parts
Sales of donated parts and all monies taken are donated

hope to see many of you there

There was never any doubt, but there are always detractors who are usually the people that sit on their hands and wait for others to do it - Then complain !

 :tumble:

Well done for stepping up to the plate. See everyone on Saturday !

Well, as feared Mrs Pinnies4me has not forgotten our anniversary Saturday, and specifically requested a nice dinner somewhere. So I am an official apology.

Hope all have a great time - Nug and I were at Mark's today, great line up of games, and if you've never played a Safecracker then best you get over these this Saturday as its there for the day, and then never to return according to Mark.

Great idea guys
I have let my relatives in Kinglake know about this ( I am in Scotland) my niece and nephews may try to get along as they love my pinball machines when they come over- I usually get sent at least one a year :-) I send them back pinheads
They could do with something to take their minds off things for a while
cheers

Was a great afternoon / evening. The raffle prizes were UNREAL. I never win anything anyway  !!!

BIG thanks to the guys at Childs/RTBB/PSP that contributed to the event. It was a great afternoon.

I was really pleased to be able to play reconditioned machines such as ;

Medieval Madness
Cactus Canyon
Monster Bash
Indiana Jones
Junkyard

All in one place, all at one time.

Also great to talk with the members about all things pinball  ^^^

Well done to the organisers, real sorry not to be able to make it. On the bright side had a great dinner with Mrs Pinnies4me.

Next time try and avoid 21 February and her birthday, 3 February. That gives you guys 11 months to choose from for the next get together!

Seriously, congrats to all who made this a success.

Well, a big thanks has to go out to Mark, Geoff, Greg, Tim, Andrew, and all others involved in putting this on. Honestly, it would have been a lot easier and cheaper for these guys just to have made a donation to the Red Cross and left it at that, but they went out of their way to allow the pinball community to join together to assist bushfire victims while having a whole heap of fun bashing away at pins and meeting other forum members. Congratulations for putting on a great event!! And well done to everyone who attended and contrubuted to the meet.

Some general comments:-

Having that many pins in the one place at the one time is just great. It was really fun to try out different machines, and the good thing for us was that there was always a couple spare even at the busiest times. I got there at 3pm and left at 11, with a bit of a dinner break in the middle, and I probably only played maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of the machines. (By the way, I didn't even go near the video games - no time for that!) This was partly due to my mate Bruce coming along and us battling it out for supremacy across a number of titles. The kids tried out a lot of different machines, and also had a go at the vids. They seemed to have a good time (got the wife to pick them up at around 5:30 so I could kick on).

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed some of the later titles such as LOTR, POTC and even Family Guy. This was the first time I had played them. Even got grand champion on one of the POTC (it was pretty low) so it was definitely a machine I got into. My feeling was that LOTR and POTC will turn into classics, not so sure about FG. Can't see myself ever owning either LOTR or POTC as the price range puts them out of reach for now, but if anyone has one and wants me to come over for an hour or two, I will be happy to have another bash at them.

Enjoyed Medieval Madness, Indiana Jones, couldn't get into Cactus Canyon. Safe Cracker was an interesting one, definitely something different; if I had understood the rules better I might have played it longer. I didn't enjoy TOTAN that much, mainly because I coudn't keep the ball alive long enough to do anything useful. Bit of a learning curve there. Played some of the older pins as well: I could see the allure of something like Hot Hand, relatively simple but enough there to be fun.

It was also good to meet a few from this forum and put faces to the names, as well as shoot the breeze for a while.

Raffle winners:

Prize A: TimC (drawn by myself)
Prize B: MartyM
Prize C: Me (yay! I think that is the first time I've ever won a raffle prize - usually I think of raffles as a donation)

Monster Raffle: TimC (drawn by Matthew aka Felixthadog)

Overall, had a fantastic time, just being able to play pinball for that long is a winner in itself! The variety of machines there made it even better; and it was great to be able to catch up with some of the other forum guys.

Really well done, guys, and a big thank you from me.

Hi All,

Yay! i won something, now i can justify getting a sore hand from writing all those raffle tickets....

Note to self: Only write my name/number on the ticket stub, NOT the tickets that i take home...ahem!
(nothing worse than writing your name/number twice!)

Have to say a BIG thanx to MarkC and crew, and all others involved in pulling the day together.
Besides having an awesome day of games games games, we can all feel warm'n'fuzzy for supporting "the greater cause" on the day.

I'm sure everyone will agree that the vibe on the floor was alive & buzzing, with enough noisy pins to make everyone raise their voices to talk to eachother.
It's great to try out such a wide varitey of pins, if anything, it'll help potential buyers write up their next shopping list as we now have a better feel for which pins are great (or not).

Thanx again !
MM.

Hi all, Yes a great result all round i would have to say.   We raised much needed funds for a worthy cause,
everyone had a great time and a good feed. #*#

Great turnout, thanks to all of you that were able to attend and also those who donated in their absence.

This was my second fund-raising get together in the last 2 days, (I knew spending $130 in raffle tickets between
the 2 events would have to mean so good karma coming my way!!!!  $#$ )

Great to put faces to names and talk pinnies with people that really enjoy it.

Once again thanks to everyone who contributed towards a great event, hope to see you all again for a meet sometime soon.......

(I vote next weekend,,,    at least i know we've got enough machines ready!!!! !*!)

I know mark has been keeping this updated so i have not posted but I have been busy trying to do GST and preparing for a few tax returns.

Just my thoughts on the day

The function was well attended and I believe a great time was had by all.

We raised a total of just under $2300 for the appeal by asking for donations for entry, sausage sizzle, drinks and a couple of raffles.

I thank all that attended and I thank them for there generosity with the door donations.

I apologize to the people that we had to disappoint by not having any sales that day but it was all about raising money and not sales.

I’d also like to thank the staff at Child (who put in some hours to get things ready) and the other people that contributed there time and goods to help make this day a success.

I didn't have time to contribute as much as i would have liked but the others did a great job

Thanks to all well done  @@* @@*

Now we need to talk the Discovery Network into filming a new series, where a group of enthusiasts 'overhaul' a pinball machine in 24hrs!  Now that would be cool to be part of!

Considering the objective of the last meet was as a fundraiser for the Bushfire Appeal - EVERYTHING was done on short notice. This time, there should be PLENTY of notice so travel arrangements can be made etc..
