Gottlieb GENIE (Tilt Issue) NNNNNNOOOOOOO!!
« on: February 05, 2012, 09:45:49 AM »
Hi Guys,

My all time fav pinball GENIE has just missed a beat for the first time in the 10 years i have had it so far, I did attempt last night to fix it but was 1:00am when it did it so about to have another crack .....

Issue...Turn it on and it comes up/boots up with tilt and ball 1 then spitting a ball out ? It of course is all dead apart from this just like tilt mode is supposed to do.

Any Ideas??? Thanks your help is appreciated ^^^   Oh well off to it i go.

Cheers
Troy

Anything tilt related you usually suspect the slam tilt switch, although this doesn't sound like it.

Firstly, check the one on the door though - it is normally closed (ie opens when slammed), slide a business card through the contacts to clean any much out.

You can do the same with the one at the captive ball near the plumb bob, and of course check the plumb bob hasn't come loose.

Try after that, then if still a problem, reseat all connectors, that's a common problem of course with these old games. If connectors, might need to think about re-pinning.

Also - have the ground mods been done?

Hi Troy

I had a very similar issue late last year with my Bally Skateball - ended up being the plumb bob diode.

Check my thread - hope it helps, at least a fairly easy test.

As per all of the above and finally check the Tilt Relay. Clean and adjust the contacts.

GOOD NEWS.......All Fixed......Thanks everyone for your help and advice..........It took 4 hours getting frustrated but came good in the end.

I started looking closley at all fuses,Tilt,Slam switches taking off and cleaning and resetting to ensure no issues.
Did it fix my issue=NO  !!!

I then looked at plumb tilt and wiring looms associated with tilt and connectors on boards by reseating etc.
Did it fix my issue=NO  !!!

I then looked at tilt relay and soldered off and cleaned it up and resoldered on and BINGO.......FIXED,Worked like a dream on turning on and have played 20 odd games this arvo and early evening and its all good again.

THANKS GUYS ^^^
