Tilt Problem
« on: December 28, 2008, 06:15:55 PM »
Just tried to restart my 60s Bally after some minor repairs (Globes, etc) - First problem - Stuck on ball 1, tried resetting, score wheels resets ok and ball kicks out OK & eveything works ok but still wont go past ball 1 - So decided to tilt machine - Bad move - smoke came out of tilt relay & blew fuse - replaced fuse, now resets score wheels, but ball wont kickout as machine is stuck on TILT. Any ideas guys ! Can the tilt function be disabled for now or is this required in start up sequence. This is my first major electrical problem & I do have  schematics.

Hmm.. Check the tilt relay contacts. Give them a clean with and old business card. Then look for each tilt on the machine and look for a lose wire or dirty contact. There should be tilt contacts under the playfield, on the door, on the baseboard and the tilt assembly - with the ball mechanism.

Should be something easy..

It appears the smoke came from (not sure if this a resistor - refer
picture)- The tilt relay coil looks ok,paper
or coil does not look burnt). If i permantly close the tilt relay, ball
kicks out, tilt light goes out & no 1 ball displayed but no playfield
activity. Did not think 60s ems used resistors, diodes etc.
Can i & how do I bypass this tilt relay ?

I've never seen that before ?

Sounds like on of the "tilts" are permanently "on".. There's usually one under the playfield, on the door and in the baseboard.
