Playfield Overlays

I've got my eye on a playfield overlay, but have had no previous experiece with them, as I have always touched up playfields before. Anyone here have some info to share about clear coating them and also how durable they are  !@#

Unless your playfield is down to bare wood like mine, avoid like the plague. 

Clear coating over the top of a sticker is just asking for trouble.

+1 with Marty, while it may look 'nice' short term, once you get some plays on the game you will most certainly run into adhesion problems. Particularly around heavy traffic areas and posts.

I would stick with your touchup work  ^^^

How would water-slide decals go for text and separate pieces of graphics?
Say if you painted the main colour then applied the separate decals and then clear coated?

In my opinion, OVERLAYS are only good for machines that would be home use only with small to medium game numbers being played.

   !@#  Something alot of people dont realise, is that alot of commercial sellers use overlays and never say anything. If its done right, its hard to tell, until you rub your fingers accross the playfield and feel the ridge of the sticker.

   *%*   Interestingly, there was a INDIANNA JONES WIDEBODY that sold apx 10 days ago on Ebay for $3300. When i closely looked at the feedback for the seller, i could see that they had purchased a Indy Overlay a few weeks before from a melb parts seller. Thats why the machine was so cheap. Wonder if the buyer put 2 and 2 together. ?

I dislike overlays completely. I've never seen a good result, and I played a KISS with an overlay and it was slow and the  lights through the inserts were so dim, I had to turn off the light in the room. Horrible idea.

Got two overlays at home but dont think I will ever use them.Did see someone where someone put two much clear on it and when they tighten the post the clear coat all cracked as the post turned.Destroyed it

That was the nail in the coffin for me.

I often look at the feedback for any seller who is offering a pinball machine for sale on EBAY. When u look at their feedback, u get to see all the parts they have purchased for the game (if any) and who they bought the parts from. You can even see if they have bought or sold any pinnies. All helps to make a decision to purchase or not.   ^^^

It seems like the concensus is to stay away from overlays as they just wear to quick. I was thinking of getting the TZ Playfied with the complete all-over overlay that is on ebay in the states. I was going to clearcoat it a number of times hoping that would seal it. Bad idea huh  ^&^

Yes but when is an overlay a brand new PF??... only played for testing... YOU..... LUCKY OWNER will be the VERY FIRST!!!!!!!!


When you want to squeeze $9K out of it.


On a side note... in a shopping centre recently, they had a SIGNED KISS poster for sale... framed!!!
Price was $120

I reckon a laminated signed napkin would be worth.... what........$???
