Hi all
A mate called me last night who owns a Dr Who.
As soon as he turns the game on it blows the fuse in the cabinet down near the power supply - everytime & instantly.
I recall I had this issue YEARS ago on a game and for the life of me cant recall what the solotuion was.
Any starting points would be appreciated

Is the fuse the correct value ? What fuse (value) is he replacing ?
Has he had the machine for a while or did he just get it ?

Yes mate - he is replacing it with a 5A SloBlo fuse.
Has owned it for a while.
Reckons the whole fuse holder ( black lid , fuse etc ) gets physically blown out of its place in the metal box when the thing blows the fuse as well.
I have not been to see it happen in person.

Ohh, I thought it must be a OK, afterall it was how I received a machine from a dealer many moons ago.
Looks like the same sort of thing happened to this old machine of mine as what Wotto is describing though.

Sounds like a short ..... an active and neutral are touching somewhere... check switch and line filter.. the varistor is more than likely already blown... basically check for shorts on 240v input side inc at transformer... please make sure plug is NOT in the socket!

With a new fuse in it and un pluged from the wall, disconnect the plug on the primary side of the transformer (240v side) and put a multi meter across the pins on the plug with the multi meter set on continuity (beeping when you short the leads).if it beeps then cut one of the wires off the varistor (the blue or green round disk with wires coming out of it) close to the line filter (the big silver or black thing with wires going in and out).
put a multi meter across the pins on the plug again.
if it no longer beeps then the varistor is faulty.
if it still beeps then cut the 2 wires on the output of the line filter (the oposite side that the fuse and varistor is connected to)
put a multi meter across the pins on the plug again.
if it still beeps then your line filter if faulty
if it no longer beeps then there is a short in the wiring between the transformer and the line filter.
Replace the faulty component.
