‘Wizard’ repro playfield
« on: July 22, 2010, 07:49:02 PM »
It is a pity Bally’s ‘Wizard’ did not come to Australia in big numbers (at all?)

Bay Area has announced a Repro Playfield for them

Bally WIZARD! Playfields Availability! Aug 1, 2010! Also Playfield Plastics
discount Bundle!
We are happy to announce the availability of a remake of the Bally Wizard!
Playfield. This playfield has been in development for many months, and will
be for shipment first week in August. These playfields are being done by an
experienced playfield and plastics silkscreen shop and look fantastic!,
Price for pre-reserved playfields will be $539 plus shipping, regular retail
prices will be higher.
ALSO ... we will also be making available the Wizard! plastics (based on
limited quantity available) to the prelease customers at a $25/off bundled
price ($100 Retail after discount).
- Silkscreened on Pinball Playfield Wood blank stock
- Artwork professionally recreated per original
- Drilled and Dimpled
- Pre-tested and fit on original game
- Very light clearcoat to give the original style matte look (we have a
mirror automotive clearcoat option for additional cost)
There are very few variances with Wizard! playfields (we've found one insert
with 2 different colors used thru it's original production), and are working
to insure as close to original or better fit and finish as possible.

This interests me greatly (as I have a Wizard in the resto Q). I'm not sure who would have made this playfield. I automatically thought of CPR (as they did the plastic run), but it obviously is not.

Purists will be interested to know that only a light clearcoat is applied, so it won't be a "mirror" finish.

As Pete mentions - not many Wizard's made it to Australia. I imported mine.

I think it is unforgiveable on EMs, but it does look great on SS. For EMs - you can always wax and polish if you want a deeper "mirror" effect.

Everyone has a different opinion on clear coats. My direct ink restorations are in the middle, not light & not heavy. That being said everyone has a different opinion on finish clear coats, & it would be impossible to please everyone. The main thing is that you want a flat & level playfield, that should last for a long time!
