Title: HRP Funhouse Chrome...
Post by: el_timbo86 on July 06, 2016, 11:21:14 PM
Hey guys,

Just finished up this Williams Funhouse for a local collector and friend of mine. We completed a couple of Funhouse's when I first started HRP, and it has been nice to revisit this title and see where we have improved in our process as of 2016.

We were fortunate enough to start with a new replacement playfield (which we documented last year). We also built a replacement cabinet for the game, knowing that the original was pretty rough. It also meant that we could get these major components ready and lined up before requiring the complete base unit.

The photos that follow are more to illustrate the before and after. I haven't gone into heaps of detail on the restoration side of things as that can be found in a number of other resto posts.

Enjoy and thanks for your interest in these projects  ^^^

Are they all new repro parts? like the subway etc. do you do the chroming yourself? or do you have magical powers to make them look like new.
Me like very much.  ^^^

Thanks for the kind words guys - have a few more that i should upload from earlier this year so will try and get to them very soon  ^^^

Absolutely beautiful, well done.  Have you moved to smaller premises?
Thanks man, havent downsized - just have a small area separate from the workshop where its alot cleaner etc. These games take time and the last thing you want is dust collecting on a project like this  @.@.
We try and do the bulk of the restoring at the shop (painting, cabinet work, sanding, polishing, washing) and leave the final assembly of the restored pieces to this area where its a clean environment. Hope that explains that  *%*

Thanks dude, unfortunately no magic powers - and no doubt about it there is a fine line between truly 'restoring' something and simply swapping parts over new for old and calling it 'restored'. There are challenges in both categories, and this game had a HEAP of brand new parts (ramps, subway, playfield, cabinet etc etc etc). The challenge when you fit so many new parts, is that you need to get them to all function as per the originals, and that can be very frustrating at times.
So to answer your question directly - yep, lots of brand new parts on this one  *%*
We send the chrome work out, and all the polishing work out too - we try to send out these type of processes to professionals in that particular field - we have used the same local businesses from day one which is nice. They understand what we are trying to build for our customers, and it shows in the finish from them.

Any other questions just fire away  $!&
