Title: Mark C and auction
Post by: Retropin on December 05, 2008, 08:33:57 AM
Did anyone here score the "Riviera" by Alben of France that Mark C had on Ebay?

I had my beedy eyes on it, but had to work late so missed it ( damn you QLD for not having daylight saving!).

I think final price was a ridiculous $126.00.

Now most people would have dismissed this game as it was an Alben and they are known as a bit of a lemon.

But this game is actually a conversion of GTB's PICNIC from 1958.

So for $126.00 you would have scored youself a rebadged classic GTB from the BEST period for GTB games.

Only 850 made initially, only very few of those would have been conversions - it was a VERY rare game, plays as a GTB, IS a GTB and im kicking myself for missing it.

Mark..... any more like this to float on Ebay?? Email me first.. ill take em off you at more than you are auctioning them off at - LOL - $127.00!!!....

....Joking mate, joking

Thats at least the third auction that has gone "under the radar"...

Who won it, Mark ?

the winner is picking it up Tuesday and helping unload the new container ... thanks Daniel
he is a local  guy and has brought at least 10 PLUS  of these off me .,
he does them up and re sells them in geelong .
real nice bloke . he evens brings me a JW to drink ...  did i say nice bloke

not sure if he is a member here but was on AA .

sorry boys that was the LAST complete EM i had  and I am still looking for another container load.  i will do my best to find another Lot.

to me it was cheap   but as I said out they go. you can always get a bargin at the end as i do list them at 1 cent and let them go .  i thought the countdowns went cheap too  but they will come up REAL nice once finished  again another Melbourne person.

Yeah those Countdowns looked nice. I ummed and ahhd over those when you got them but settled on the Sinbad for my foray into system 1's. I would have been happy with both. The chimes on Sinbad over the bings and bongs on Countdown helped me decide. Either you have proper electronic sounds or chimes - just my opinion.

All or most of those EMs / System 1 machines will scrub up fine if the time is put into them..

Glad to hear that you are looking for more Mark  #*#

Still kicking myself over this one...

Nino - i know you are after at least 1 woodrail for your collection - at the price of what? 2 cartons of decent beer this was an absolute steal!

Just a heads up for anyone who MAY be interested in grabbing one of these.
PBR sell ALL spares for them, so you CAN get them working.
The year of this machine - 1958 GTB had really carved their niche in the market as the #1 pinball manufacturer - much snappier bumpers, single action flippers ( GTB had these from approx 1950 onwards - Wms were still using impulse flippers till at least 54 - 55).
This reputation carried GTB right through the 60's and they were emulated by all other pinball manufacturers.

Also to note.. GTB games were always made to a specific budget. For this reason, single player games are the better ones. What was spent on extra steppers and score wheels was lost on PF action. So the REAL prize is a late 50's GTB single player. But in saying that.. there is nothing wrong with a 2 player like this one - still a great game. Anyone who plays a GTB from 50's is ALWAYS surprised just how snappy these games are - they are fast for their time.

And at $126.00 this really was the best deal ive seen on Ebay in 10 years of searching. Unbelievable!

Please keep the thread on topic guys. Personal questions like that are probably best dealt with via PM. All good!  ^^^

That Riviera must surely rate as the buy of the year.

I with a freind tried to bid on this Riviera thought we had set a max bid of $500 only to find out after the auction we had stuffed up. !*!  Was aware that it was a Gottlieb and thought it looked in a little better nick then the other Gottlieb EM Mark had for sale at the time.

Yep someone got a bargin.

Yeah couldn't believe what this sold for...well done Daniel

And I have a Gottlieb Picnic being fully restored at present (hey Gav will need some stencils made)  :D

At least one woodrail is needed in a lineup - just can't get enough of them!
