Slowly does it - Very Hot weather is slowing me down a little ! Need some cooling in the garage.

All the playfield parts both under and on the top of the playfield are done. I've rebuilt the Large DT Bank - just took my time and now I'm installing the new Flipper kits. I move up the underside of the playfield and check every component before re assembly. Since I've done the lower flipper assemblies - with "hot" coils, I clean and prep this area ;

Here's the Large DT. I will install Mylar on each individual DT. Rebuild kits installed.

This restore will start to "speed up" as I there is minimal cleaning. Just a case of rebuilding the stepper unit and some relays. Will be fun !

We're fighting polar opposites I see. Lots of snow here today. I had to push through the cold last night to work in my shop. After about half an hour, I either stopped noticing it, or the tools warmed up enough from use that it wasn't so bad.

So, how much 'hotter' are these hot coils? Are the stock flipper coils not powerful enough? I've heard the term used before, but wasn't sure if it was a huge difference, or just a slight bump.

I imagine a slight bump would be a pretty large perceived difference, though, considering the flipper would be rebuilt at the same time?

I actually thought of you as I was creating my post - must be like walking into a Freezer for you guys - It was like walking into an oven for me over the past week.

"Hot" coils - Owner has requested these and they do make a difference. Some choose to "high tap" EMs, but that affects all coils, whereas replacing the flipper coils with "hot" coils only affects the flippers. In this case - just the bottom flipper coils will be replaced. I would not replace the upper flipper coils in this machine.

"Stock" flipper coils would suffice, and I use them in my machines as I like my machines playing "original". The "Hot" coils are a compromise instead of "High Tapping" the transformer (in my opinion).

I've made HEAPS of progress on the underside of the playfield and tonight started rebuilding the topside. I'm VERY pleased with the progress, even though it is just the playfield and I have plenty to go - it is coming together nicely.

I've rebuilt the Drop Target assemblies and I thought it would be a good idea to cover the individual targets with mylar. It was a step I wanted to finish before installing the target banks.

All four flippers have been rebuilt with rebuild kits
All contacts have been cleaned with alcohol and a toothbrush fine scotchbrite
Lane switches have been tumbled and installed
Side supports have been sanded and the metal guide polished
Anything made of metal that fit in the tumber, was tumbled
Stepper unit was completely rebuilt
All moving assemblies cleaned / tumbled etc..
All coil sleeves replaced - except DT - Need to order

Here's a picture of the underside od the playfield with the final step being the replacement of the DT sleeves and reassembly on to the DT assembly

Just a quick picture of the topside to ensure I have all the parts, and to get an idea of what I need to order

Playfield is almost done - I just need to check on a few things and I'll post some completed pictures.

I'm up to around 107 photos of the playfield (top and bottom) alone. I only post the "good ones" - not the photos of the screws lined up with a caliper next to them. I've done enough EM's to pretty much know where most of the generic parts go.

Steppers and DT banks are also easy and like most parts of an EM - it is all logical and physical - so you can work out how each unit functions very easily. That's why I love EMs - tangible and logical.

Yes he is - and I'm sure he will allow you to have a game or two before he takes it home - but you know the garage is always open, Marty  ^^^
