GOTTLIEB EM "Hit the Deck" on ebay. Melbourne
« on: February 03, 2009, 11:04:29 PM »
You don't see these come up on ebay very often !
A Gottlieb EM with look alike 'digital' score reels.
Don't know what it plays like but would be a cool Wedgehead to own.

That one could well be worth a look as a project machine!

Anyone got any comments?

IPDB has it as only 375 made. http://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?any=hit+the+deck&search=Search+Database&searchtype=quick#1201
pretty rare I'd say especially for Australia.
I think it was Gottlieb's way to make it look a bit like a SS machine, blacked out reels with red segments,
as they were starting to get left behind  !!!  !!! in the sales by not getting into Solid state machines as quick as the other manufacturers.
Looks an OK game but. !@#

Well, being in Melbourne would mean not having to worry about freight as much. Plus I could possibly have a look before bidding.

Low production game with 375 made.

Heaps of rollovers. Dunno what it plays like.

OK, does anyone here know what it plays like?? It is basically the same as Neptune and Poseidon, so if you've played one of those it should play the same.

I've never played it. The score reels just don't have that appeal to me.

It looks like a great prospect.

Hey Nino, you could always paint them white & black like a real EM. :lol
nah seriously, I would like something like this . ( another wedgehead & a John Osbourne design ,who later went on to design GTBs Haunted House. )
But the usual " haven't got the cash, too far away etc." has left me dreamin'. I do hope someone here gets it. ( as I'd like to have a game of it at a meet one day. :lol)

Mate, 2c doesn't cut it any more. Try 20c.

Hey was worth a buck at least and just cos the post went away with the ether im scaling it back to 10c

...Looks better than most 70's GTB machines - im not a fan of these and avoid them - mainly due to the massive ball drain GTB had down the centre. GTB had a habit of putting a spinner etc in the centre lane - any ball passing through from the top is instant ball drain.

This machine doesnt have that - lots of rollovers from ball arch means that you have to employ plunger skills - something that got lost over the subsequent years, also some good nudging off the bumpers to get ball back through them. Rollovers at top left look difficult to achieve apart from aimed shot from right flipper or lucky bounce off bumper.
Captive kicker looks like a bonus multiplier from rollovers achieved.

Even the centre bumper is slightly off dead centre lane and so minimises my main gripe with GTB 70's games.

I like it - looks a cracking game and a challenge to achieve. For PF layout and artwork - this game is one of the best 70's GTB machines ive seen

Owned one about 10 years ago (picked it up for $50  *%*)  - it is now part of Alan Tate's collection.

It isn't a bad game to play, not the best though. Always thought if the centre pop bumper was not on the game would be a really good game.

Pity the photos on the listing are crappy
