...and promoting their new album "Live & Unplugged.....from our life support machines"  :lol

They already have done an unplugged album in 94', which is one of the most successful (along with Nirvana) in MTV history  %$%

I heard this rumor last week and from what I've heard, Australia will be part of their next world tour. I didn't attend the last tour (the only tour I have not attended), because Ace is not in the band. I probably won't go to this one either, however, my 7 year old son wants to see them live, so I might have to go !

Funny you should mention it, Pete - I watched "KISSOLOGY I, II and II" in succession two weeks ago, and it reminded me of how great this band is. Even though I don't approve of the current line up, I was not surprised to hear their last show in Quebec, Canada (current tour), had over 90,000 in attendance.

Not bad for a band that have been around for 39 years !

4 - Surprised
5 - Eat 'em alive
6 - She aint no woman
7 - The darkest party
8 - Ran outta time
9 - One way to rock
10 - The devil's ode...
11 - live track - to be determined.
12 - live track - to be determined.

Ace is my favorite "all time" guitarist, and is wholly responsible for the Klassic 70's sound. I understand Peter Criss suffered greatly with the fatigue of the last tour and Eric Singer is one of the best drummers in the world, but I can't agree with the need to have Tommy in the band when Ace is touring with his own band and is healthy and sober. Nothing compares with the original line up. Sonic Boom was a horrible record. What I really hate is every new release is compared with "Destroyer", yet "Destroyer" isn't even in the same league as "Love Gun" or "Rock' and Roll Over". Even "The Elder" is a MUCH better album !

I think those photos were from "The Footy Show", and they sounded TERRIBLE on that night (Pre recorded ?). The Gig at the Grand Prix was very good.

"one of the best drummers in the world"

oh thats a big call.

He was already an established drummer well before his first tenure in KISS. He played in Alice Cooper's touring band for a couple of tours and then landed the job replacing Eric Carr. I've seen him live a few times and he never fails to impress. Obviously not a legend in the same class as Peart, Bonham and co, but I still think he is one of the better drummers going around. My favorite is Mike Portnoy. No modern drummer is close.

Kiss trivia coming up.
1. What year did Kiss play their farewell tour in Melbourne.
The wife & I can't remember....was it 2004?

2. Are they real sounding speakers in those pics??

3. Saw one the other day on the road and wet my pants - name the model number of the Porsche car featured in "Reason to live"?

4. When was the last time that Rage did a Kiss special that went ALL night???

kiss is a good band but thats still a big call, more forgiving than if you said Lars Urlrich is the best drummer ever lol. but still a big call

You havent seen the likes of Danny Carey, and he is a modern drummer,

YES! However, not all of the speaker-cabinets were plugged in for that (terrible) Footy-Show performance, as they'd be FAR TOO LOUD for the capacity of the studio to the point where you wouldn't comprehend what was coming out of them.

Smoke & mirrors, it's all show show show ;-)

well it is after all their job, so why not i say, and from live dvds of theirs ive seen its a real production sort of show mixed with concert.
im not a fan my self of these big wanky short of shows, but i can certainly appreciate the effort, and it is what their fans are after, i could imagine the price tag being high, but the cost to run a show would be through the roof.
one of my favorite bands has a crew of 100 employed by them to do get a show going and operating and aparently that is actually a small number. thats allot of money to fly and pay them to go around, i bet kiss has allot more than a crew of 100 when they have a show. probly 20 just on makeup lol, i actually wonder how much money bands actually make from concerts. i dont recon it would be very much. I stayed back after a show to a tool concert and the band members were actually helping pull apart the stage and fold them into brief cases lol, they were to be playing in sydney the next night, so it would be allot of work and money to put on one of these shows.
Title: Re: KISS Tour Australia 2013
Post by: Strangeways on January 22, 2012, 12:29:19 AM

Kinda funny, but one quote from Simmons really sums it up for me - "If we believed the critics, we would have lasted one tour."

My favorite quotes are from Ace.

"If I knew so many guitarists were going to be influenced by me, I would have practiced more"

Molly Meldrum interviewed the band in 1980, while the band were doing a promo for the Australian tour. Each member was supposed to introduce each other. Ace was drunk. After the third take, Ace forgot his line, and looked into the camera and said "Look .. .. .. It's Rock and Roll".

Tom Schnieder interview from 1979 - Tom introduces Gene Simmons - "You are the BASS player" - He then introduces Ace (Drunk) - "You are the lead guitarist ? " - Ace responds - "No, I'm the trout player".

There's no doubt KISS set the standard for live shows in the 70's. Even their Reunion Tour was the biggest tour of 1996/97. Watch the early live shows from the mid seventies - no one was doing that kind of show on that scale.

i would have to agree, even not being a fan, kiss and floyd would have to be the most known for their big shows, of most bands

you would get your $300 bucks worth i would imagine

Interesting development. My news is a mid to late 2013 Australian Tour, but that may have been moved forward to coincide with the end of the South American leg of the tour ? But you never know - They will no doubt have ANOTHER World Tour for the 40th Anniversary. Not many noteworthy bands still playing Arenas and Stadiums for 40 consecutive years.

Their last album "Sonic Boom" was absolute garbage. But their new album "Monster" is simply awesome. I might have to drag out my KISS Army T-Shirt and take my 8 year old son who plays air drums (on his Wii Drum Set) to "God of Thunder". Who would have thought that in 1976, I heard "Rock and Roll all Nite" on the radio, and 38 years later, I'm taking my first born to his first concert ? Ironically, my first concert was KISS in 1980 at VFL Park.

No doubting you at all Peter. I was wondering how the "Monster" tour would coincide with the "40th Anniversary" tour. It might turn into a Festival tour - Rock AM Ring, Donnington etc..

i got to ask Nino what is your favorite bit of Kiss Merchandise you own?? being a kiss guy you must have pretty big collection is there something in particular you collect of theirs like sign tour bill posters or something? or just everything?

That's a hard question. Most Valuable is the pinball. Rarest would be original Icy Pole wrappers which I kept. I have the "Rock and Roll Over" album cover, the KISS logo from double platinum and a backdrop of flames on my left upper arm. Gene and Paul signed it at the Melbourne Convention in 1993 (private meeting with the press), and then I had their signatures inked permanently.

My personal collection is worth well over $50K. I collect tour book and T-Shirts. I have an original T-Shirt from the early 70's. It features the debut album cover, but it was not released on that tour. I also collect Tribute albums. I have the "Hard to Believe" RED vinyl double album (featuring Nirvana) signed by Paul and Gene. The look on their face when I handed the album to them to sign was priceless.

Totally agree with Monster being a great album.  The closest they have been to the good old days for some time.

I think the production has a lot to do with it. They decided to record the album using analogue equipment and the sound is a lot more "raw" than the modern sound. It had the "feel" of Bob Ezrin's productions. Closer to "Revenge" than "Destroyer", but most of the songs could have easily fit on "Love Gun". I also think that a decision was made to allow Singer and Thayer to "be themselves" rather than sound like Criss and Frehley. There is only one Ace Frehley. Thayer really shines on this album. It is a modern album with tried and trusted recording and production. Songs are strong - "Long way down" is simply awesome.

Sonic Boom and Psycho Circus were both really fractured and disorganized albums. Monster will be considered a classic, and it gives a real kick in the pants to modern bands, and KISS' peers. The new Aerosmith album is an absolute piece of crap next to Monster.

Title: Re: KISS Tour Australia 2013
Post by: Pintoxicated on November 11, 2012, 11:32:33 PM
We're on the same page mate, Long Way Down is the pick of the album for me as well.  That song seems to keep building and gets better as it goes.  Find myself singing plenty of the Monster songs in my head all day.

One notable feature is the lack of an all out American rock anthem e.g God Gave Rock n Roll To You.  They way over did these IMHO.

The thing I really like about Monster, if you knew nothing about Kiss, there's no way you would think these guys are as old as they are by the sound of these songs.

On the Clipsal website now. I'm surprised the Crue will be traveling with Mick Mar's health issues, but I will definitely see a couple of these shows.

For those that think KISS at old and washed up, I suggest you watch this video. Their last tour. Not bad for two guys pushing 60 - and they pay tribute to "The Who" in the middle of the song. Probably worth Fast forwarding the into to the 1 minute mark.

Simmons, Stanley, Thayer and Singer. I've not been too enthusiastic about this line up. Funnily enough Eric Singer is one of my favorite drummers. Ace Frehley is doing much better on his own (musically and creatively), at the expense of a heavy paycheck. Frehley was never about the money - he just wanted to play guitar.

Anyway - The new album is absolutely fantastic. I'll be going to the Etihad Show - ironically, the last show I attended was also KISS at Etihad.

Sorry boys, but Adelaide comes out the winner for pricing on this one

$83 gets you a one day pass to the Clipsal 500 on raceday AND access to the KISS/Motley Crue concert that night.

When was the last time a double (triple?) header like that was under $100?

Sometimes we do get things right over here.  #*#

Plus this time there will be no Ennio Morricone concert/racing clash like last year.... ^.^

If only they still had the GMC 400 in Canberra - maybe they'd be playing here,... but then again, the wowsers always seem to win &&

No matter, only a quick trip up to Sydney and it'll be well worth it. In fact I'm taking the family up to Sydney in a couple of weeks to see Nickelback. love 'em or hate 'em they do put on a good show $#$

Reserved seating sold out in 8 minutes. Standing room only for first Etihad show.

I ended up buying reserved seating tickets (first row) to the Second Etihad show.

I'm stoked - I'm going with a friend who has accompanied me to just about every Hard Rock / Heavy Metal concert since the mid 80's, and now we are taking our kids. My first concert was a KISS concert, and now my Son will be going to his FIRST concert (other than the wiggles). Stoked.

The new album is awesome, and I'm told they are bringing their outdoor stadium stage. It does not get any better than this (unless Ace was in the band - but I'm cool with Tommy)..

Awesome stuff! My first KISS concert and can't wait. Love Mötley Crüe, so I'm getting two concerts for the price of one. My girlfriend and I will be in gold reserve for the first Etihad show.

Can you park your car at Etihad?

Cheers!

I Love It Loud
Psycho Circus
Calling Dr. Love
Firehouse
(Gene spits fire)
Wall of Sound
Outta This World
(Tommy and Eric Jam)
Bass Solo
(Gene spits blood and flies, … more)
God of Thunder
War Machine
Shandi
(Acoustic, performed only by Paul)
Love Gun
(Paul flies)
Black Diamond
(with short Paul guitar solo)
Encore:
Lick It Up
(excerpt from Won't Get Fooled Again)
I Was Made for Lovin' You
Rock and Roll All Nite
God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You II

No complaints about the setlist - that's 2 hours worth of music. I'm not a fan of solos. I'd like to see Deuce, She or Watchin' You - but considering they are trying to cover all 40 years, I'm happy with the mix of old and new. Nothing off Sonic Boom - which is good.

I'm going to the second Etihad show, and I have not been since the 2004 Show (Alive IV), so I'll be interested to know where to park as well !

The only song I would have liked is 100,000 years but I'm also happy with set list, I park sort of opposite on the water front side in the multi story car park. I'm going to the Gene Simmons talk event at 1230 on the Tuesday so I'll let you guys know where I park :-)

Went to the show in Perth last night, had a good time.  Kiss were good still. Wry entertaining. They laid the cheese on thick with the nobody rocks like Springfield Perth type of thing a few too many times. But it's all part of the act i guess, it was a decent show.

Motley Crüe weren't bad although Vince Neil is the weakest link in that band, he struggled vocally IMO. Probably doesn't help that he doesn't appear too fit.

No change from when they toured a few years ago then.

Watching him puff and wheeze his way through the aptly named Kickstart My Heart destroyed my teenage memories.  Kick....puff...start.....ma....art.....custom built bike....wheeze....103

Oh well, I'll find out if there's any improvement on Sunday night after the Clipsal 500 race - corporate box for me.  ^^^

Vince Neil's voice has been deteriorating for years now. I felt Corabi was a much better singer (when he was in the band). I guess if you know his voice is stuffed, then it is not a huge disappointment. They use female back up singers to hit the high notes. I feel for Mick Mars - still one of the most underrated guitarists in Metal, but his health is also on the decline. There are a lot of great docos about the Crue on Youtube - These guys are lucky to be alive.

Stanley's voice is also in the decline. Throat surgery didn't help. In theirs 60's now, so it might be getting closer to pulling the curtain. They still rock harder than bands half their age and I'm looking forward to the Melbourne shows. I'm going with two other friends that I used to go to gigs with in the late 80's.

I'm going early (second show), to see Motley Crue. If I can get there early enough, I'm keen to catch Thin Lizzy. I beleive Marco Mendoza is in the lineup and he is an amazing bass player. If John Sykes was in the band I would make a point to be there. Both excellent musicians. Back on to Motley - They were crap in 1989 - probably the worst live act to grace our shores in years. I'm very pumped to them tomorrow.

Peter - I expect a full report tonight !

So they story goes - the stage lighting rig caught fire at the clipsal show and Paul Stanley did an impromptu version of "Light my fire"  @@*

Amazing concert! I finally got to see Mötley Crüe live and wasn't disappointed....then KISS....absolutely amazing. A band that mystified me ever since I was a child playing Atari with my mum's cousin. His room was adorned with these scary looking figured called KISS. Finally got to experience the spectacle of a live KISS concert. I like my music with a twist of theatrics.

Didn't see any of the AP boys there, but texted with Peter like schoolgirls afterwards. Hahaha

Paul's voice held up good but when they sung "I was made for loving you" I felt his voice suffered and they where out of tune someone played a little quick but hey they where awesome you will love it and make sure you watch motley.

God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You II

Pete - I don't remember them playing "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You II" ? They played the studio version ove the PA once the house lights went on.

if anyone doesn't like my opinion on KISS related posts - skip the review - as you won't like it !

I missed Thin Lizzy.

Motley Crue - Vince's voice is not that bad. He is difficult to understand at times. Imagine Jeff Fenech and Milo Kerrigan singing, and you will know hat I mean  #@# .. It would be hard to take kids to their show, as avery second word was the "F" word. Mick Mars is simply awesome. He carries the motley sound really well, and he was moving around the stage - but not as much as Nikki. They are a powerful band live, but their setlist was lacking "punch". Half way through the set you were left wondering whether they are a Metal band or not. There was a mass exodus at the start of "home Sweet Home" - and I don't blame anyone for leaving. don't these guys that play ballards realize that this type of rubbish is what killed the genre ? Anyway, they totally lost me to the beer queue when Tommy Lee played is "drum solo". It sounded like I was at a doof doof pill popping disco event. I have never seen so many people leave for the beer line or toilet.. I didn't watch the end of their set.

Dim the lights, and over the mike "You wanted the best, you got the best. Hot hottest band in the world - KISS"

- Seriously - There is no better set opener than "Detroit Rock City". They all descend from the roof amongst a massive amount of pyro and explosions going off everywhere. Not a single person was in their seat, it was a sonic and visual explosion - very powerful. The sound mix was incredible. They kept us on our feet for "shout it out loud", "Deuce" and "Firehouse". Then they played a new song off the latest album and everyone sat down and waited until it was over. Very painful to listen to their latest stuff after hearing the very old stuff. Makes me think that even though "Monster" was a top 10 album world wide, concert goers don't want to hear the newer songs. They got away with "Psycho circus", that was VERY cool. "Crazy Nights" sounded really strange. Tommy Thayer does not have the right "sound" or "feel" that Kulick had when they played this is the 80's. "Love gun" was a welcome return to the 70's sound and then I thought they played "Rock and Roll all nite" too early. Awesome Pyro at the end - this has to be the party song of the 70's. Encore was really good. "Lick it up" fits in real nice with the older stuff and "The Who" tribute in the middle of the song sounded very cool. Then Paul started playing a few bars of "Stairway to Heaven", and then they broke into the highlight for me - "Black Diamond". Absolutely powerful arena performance. The stage was absolutely massive, but they managed to blow up just about every square inch. I recorded the end on my phone, and I've watched it a few times.

I was disappointed they only played for 1 3/4 hours. Less talk and more of the older stuff. Get rid of the guitar solo, Ace was the master and there's no use in pretending to play his often improvised solos. I was pleased they didn't play 'I was made" or "Shandi". They would have blown me away if they played "She", "Watchin You" or "Nothin to Lose".

So where do KISS rate amongst their peers ? Hard to work that one out, as they don't have any peers based on that performance. They brought their "A grade" stage show to Australia, and no one was disappointed. I caught up with many old friends, and met a few other KISS nut jobs like me. Not one person I spoke to went to the first show. I think that fans don't embrace the new music, they are a nostalgia show, but a modern show with all the lighting, video and effects. They are today, EXACTLY what they were when I first saw them on TV in 1975 - just an awesome spectacle, and the absolute best live concert event for $125 in the world.

I feel that will be the last we will see of KISS in Australia. Pauls' voice was VERY good, but it will deteriorate over the tour. If that was the last show I will see, then I'm cool with that. I have been a "stick in mud" since Ace left, but this line up caries the legacy well. Ironic to see the only "sold out" T-shirt was the shirt with the KISS logo and no members !

2. Are they real sounding speakers in those pics??

So with more speakers they would have sounded even worse..... :lol..,. a small perfomance like that showed how ordinary they really are, a decent artist/band with real talent would have been able to give a quality perfomance. Take the makeup and pyrotechnics away and all you have is a average band stacked with average players playing damm average songs.
It was funny as hell watching all the kiss gumbys come out of the woodwork last night for the Brisbane concert complete with tryhard makeup, bogan jeans and vests.
The sheep are easily distracted....baaaaaaaaaaaa.
$150 a ticket!!! what a deadset rort, they should be playing for free on a worldwide sorry tour to appologise for masquerading a real band.
