Title: Another Brisbane Pin-Freak!
Post by: Astroboy on April 15, 2009, 10:15:28 PM
Hi folks!
Like many of you I loved to bash out a few credits on the pinball or arcade machine down at the fish and chip shop back in the 70s-80s when I was a kid. I used to collect glass bottles with refund valued at 5c a bottle then go and blow the earnings in one fell swoop.
I have been tinkering with various arcade machines over the years.....one thing led to another and I ended up the proud owner of a 1974 Williams Skylab. Now the bug has bitten hard and surely another machine will soon follow (then another and another until marital discord finally puts an end to the excess!).
I am here hoping to get some sound advice to keep my machine running and to perhaps sniff out another to join it in my "Great Temple of Amusements" located in my back room with my arcade machines and enough obsolete console stuff to choke an elephant!
It is going to be great to be able to talk about this kind of stuff without being looked at with a mixture of bemusement and even fear!
I hope to feel amongst brethren here......I am not insane!!

My other interests include vintage motorcycles and amateur rocketry. Any one else here into this stuff too??

Google MMRG (Melbourne Metro Rocketry Group) or find them at www.ausrocketry.com\forum
They are a great bunch of guys who fly regularly.

What era of pinball are you after? Space/Rocket themed pins have been around since the 1950s.

Lots of cool games from the 1950/60/70 era with that theme

Does your Skylab work as it should?

Just a word of warning though - you get another pin and they will breed like rabbits  *%*

If rocketry means being the designated member of your street that has to light up the Thunder Kings on New Years Eve when everyone else is too scared or too drunk, then yes I share your hobby  :lol :lol :lol

Welcome aboard.

The earlier the better!!

Anyone got any leads??

My skylab is behaving well, the spacelab special scoring isn't working right though. Waiting for the manual/schematics to investigate further. Also a few so-so globe sockets but all will be addressed in time. Just had a flipper rebuild kit arrive too.

Welcome Astroboy, glad to have you aboard! I also have a love of the space theme/sci-fi games - got five that fit that category (but not rockets exactly). I have an absolute fascination with rocketry and about 50 documentary movies about the various manned missions - it's a real passion with me too. Even used to fly a few rockets many years ago, just the hobby store ones, but boy they were fun!

My 2 youngest want me to take them down there one day when they are launching some. They love that movie October Sky.

A bit of useless info for you - Our neighbours are the parents of the two guys who invented the scramjet #*#
