Title: drop target coil sleeve
Post by: 48 on September 10, 2010, 09:38:34 AM
I know someone here has rebuilt their Gorgar drop targets, did anyone else have a metal coil
sleeve in their coil when they pulled it apart?
I thought that metal sleeves had not been used long before this machine was made.
I assume someone has swapped it from the original but thought I would check here first.
(just know I will find the answer here  @@* )
It's not that it doesn't work OK but I figured a plastic one would be better.

Metal coil sleeves were used back in the 50's. I'd say the coil sleeve you have found was changed over at some stage !

Just replace with a plastic !

Thanks Nino,
Figured that would be the case, but thought I'd check anyway.
Knew I'd get a fast answer!

These Williams drops work and feel so much better when they've had a service. Changes the whole game.

Yeah I hear you.
This poor old machine hadn't been serviced since Adam was a lad.
Drop targets were not resetting or giving points.
Much better now even on the bench.
Just gotta find a few of those horseshoe contacts and I'm good.

Not quite true Nino - Stern used aluminum coil sleeves in drop target reset coils, I believe right up to their demise in 1984.

cheers

Ian - I was referring to the fact that the coil sleeves go all the way back to the 50's. I have plenty of NOS Bally coils with aluminium sleeves.

I agree with the Stern Drop Target coil. I ordered some from PBR some time ago. Not sure if Williams had the sleeves from factory.
