Old cigarette vending machine help required
« on: February 26, 2011, 10:01:10 PM »
Hi all

I just got home from 3 days of drinking and buying stuff at the ballarat swap meet.    Amonst my car parts I bought I also scored myself a parking meter and an old cigarette vending machine the types installed into the hallway at home which I've always wanted.

The only ones I've seen for sale have been on eBay and went for way to much this one is great it's complete but has been painted green at some stage does anyone have one of these or know where I can find any pictures of how this thing should look?   I'll attach a picture tomorro once I've got some much needed sleep

I remember my Dad had one of these for awhile.

The cigarette packs used to come out with the change taped to them.

Unfortunately someone broke into our house and one thing they did was to pry open the machine and steal all the cigarettes.

Ive never seen a cigarette machine made for home use.. didnt know they existed till now... must be one of those Aussie things that didnt travel too well.
We had them in the tube stations in England but they were a much bigger wall mounted unit.
What i do remember though is my aunty having a coin operated TV in her house... ive wanted one ever since and am still looking for one. I always thought she had it as a permanent feature, but having spoken to my dad, she used to hire it when us kids came over to stay and the hire company would remove it once we'd left and keep all the money plus hire fee.

A cigarette machine for home use..... man i love that idea and wish id had one for when i was a smoker.
Such a shame it got painted green!

Hi Daniel.
I rang the old man to check if he could remember price or any other details but unfortunately his memory is worse than mine. !@#

He thought maybe the machine took 20 cent coins but wasn't real sure on that.
Only thing he can remember for sure was that the cigarettes were camel filters and that whoever broke into it took all the cigarettes and all the money from the machine as well!

I seem to recall the packs having 2 coins taped on them, maybe a 10 and 5 cent piece.

It think it must have been around mid to late 70's.

Anybody remember how much for a pack of smokes back then?
