From what i understand, something in development
I want one!!!!
-
How good does that look! Did you make any contact with Randy about it?
Jeff
-
Nice very nice. Wouldnt it look great on all DMD pins I think.
Man lets hope that is affordable when and if it does come out.
Cool.
-
Notice the only footage is in a AFM - I suspect the DMD driver software has to be rewritten??? It certainly looks great!
-
That video of the AFM display was nothing short of amazing!! I've emailed Randy to place me on any mailing list, it's the one mod I **would** do to my AFM!
-
Was wondering how long it would take...
This wont be cheap and yes driver software will have to be altered.
This is pixel RGB LED and would only require a 5V supply. Higher the pixel definition the higher the cost, also brighter the display, higher the cost.
Each pixel has its own driver.. this could be one LED wide or 3 or 4.
Its the same technology that you see as a back drop on a stage these days.
I too sell a similar item.. mine is 3 LED pixel and high light output 50/50.
Yes... it is bloody cool!
Heres a short clip of mine.. this display is 1000mm X 600mm

-
Ohhhh YES!!!!!!
-
I understand that it's a 'color DMD' while it's in the USA but does it morph into a 'colour DMD' when it arrives in Australia much the same as a airplane that takes off in America arrives in Australia as an aeroplane?
-
I understand that it's a 'color DMD' while it's in the USA but does it morph into a 'colour DMD' when it arrives in Australia much the same as a airplane that takes off in America arrives in Australia as an aeroplane?
I hope so... i dont do "color"
-
thats why i have always liked the Pin2000 monitors of Revenge from Mars and Star Wars Episode 1, HEAPS OF COLOUR UP THE BACK instead of boring orange.
technology should make the colour dmd cheap $, but i bet it wont be due to the time with software for each and every title to be set up. !@#
great to see the pinball industry moving forward. theres going to be some great looking pins out there soon. its a wonder Stern hasnt done it yet. #@#
-
mmm, i wonder how it works, it would definately need all new roms and proberly a extra board, looks interseting but they wont do all machines if they need to make new roms! maybe they will pass it to stern to compete with jersey jack... $#$ $#$ $#$ The pinball war is returning!!! $#$ $#$ $#$
-
Each clip/ image is stored as FLASH... this is then decoded by a DMX controller and fed to the LED display.
Standard use is to have your files stored onto SD card for these, but can be ROM of course. The game then chooses which program to run.
So essentially, it works exactly the same, except a DMX decoder is required.
The individual drivers for each LED will push the price up... single controlled LED display is expensive
-
Definitely an enhancement, but the price will be a key factor as to the take-up rate, I imagine.
-
Interested to see what the price would be, and what other mods need to be made. That being said, I'd still get some for my top line pinnies $#$
-
COOL ()
There is talk about these being used on the next Stern, Transformers. Interesting to see if it goes that way or to a LCD monitor.
All change due to competition from JJP of course, a little competition is a great thing, we are now moving forward again
-
Nice , I like it .
There would be a huge market out there for this little baby .
-
Just received this reply, so anyone interested might want to get added to the mailing list -
Thanks very much for your recent correspondence and interest in the ColorDMD project. I recently added a short FAQ to address some of the more common questions I've received over the last few days. Hopefully this provides some additional information regarding the status of the project. I've also added your contact information to an interest group mailing list for any future announcements.
Best Regards,
randy@colordmd.com

They are taking orders from the 6th April and staring to ship on the 9th April @@*
-
Already started saving up to put one of these in my TAF Black - can hardly wait #*#
P.S. Aeroplane fuselages are made from aluminum alloy %$%
P.S. A J Laird is a rarity . . . he can definitely spell definitely correctly #@#
-
Anyone that wants to jump the gun over everyone else - Bay Area Amusements (one of ColorDMD's distributors) already has them listed as in stock and for sale.
!*! !*!
http://bayareaamusements.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=DI-COLORDMD-AFM&Category_Code=GS-3781&Product_Count=39
Not trying to over hype it, but the initial reports are there were only 100 preliminary units made to test the demand and it is impossible to gauge how quickly these will actually sell. !@#
-
ColorDMD online store is open, but all items are currently listed as out of stock.
Also note that they only ship to US and Canada making it compulsory to go through Bay Area distributor (see above post) for international orders.
http://shop.colordmd.com/main.sc
EDIT: Heads up as to the ROM version requirements also:
Game ROM Version: 1.13b
-
Well either Bay Area have sold out of colordmd stock already, OR they were told to stop selling the ColorDMD's before the April 6th start date, since the BAA link in the above post is no longer working and the colordmd product link has been removed from their website.
-
PBPete managed to get 2, matbe they are sold out? !@#
-
I believe that when CPR did a run of playfields in the past, Wayne would get an number of playfields instead of cash as payment for the licence
I would asume the same deal may aply to PP
-
Their web site states that they only made 100 units so it's no surprise they've sold out already.
-
need Game ROM Version: 1.13b to run the color DMD too
-
EDIT: Heads up as to the ROM version requirements also:
Game ROM Version: 1.13b
I do have that already, I recall it was worth updating back then anyway - better light show from memory.
-
EDIT: Heads up as to the ROM version requirements also:
Game ROM Version: 1.13b
Ok, I have just clarified this with the manufacturer, Randy Perlow.
They ONLY tested the colordmd with rom revision 1.13b and no other, but he sees no reason why it will not work with previous rom revisions (even back to the original production rom 1.0 version).
It will NOT cause any damage by using an older ROM version, but there MAY be some DMD sequences that are not fully in colour - in which case you will need to upgrade your rom version to 1.13B.
I am still running 1.0, so I will give feedback on any differences found to the AP forum and the ColorDMD staff once the Colordmd arrives and I have tested it out.
-
Thanks for all the info, useful stuff.
Be worth grabbing the 1.13b though for your game. Another thing it does is tune down the pop bumpers a little to same breakages. The light show is enough to make it worthwhile though.
-
Interesting tidbit of info I picked up on this interview with the Colordmd inventors on pinballhead.com.
The Color DMD even though machine specific, can be used in another machine to display a different single colour only on any other WPC machine (green CV, blue Whitewater, yellow Indiana Jones, purple Monster bash for example)
http://pinballhead.com/a-talk-with-colordmd-founders/
PH: Will ColorDMD units be interchangeable by switching colorization code or does one unit only work for that title?
Randy: We’ve gotten this question a lot, and we’re still considering it. For now, they will not be interchangeable. Our current mission is to try to get as many hardware platforms out there as we can. We’d like you to have a ColorDMD in both your AFM and your MM.
However, we have added a feature to the ColorDMD that people might find almost as interesting. Using the integrated menu system, the display can be put into a mode where it behaves like a programmable single color display. This means that you could take the ColorDMD out of your AFM, stick it in another WPC/WPC95 game and set the color to anything that pleases you. Blue White Water? Purple WCS94? You name it.
Must give this a try when it arrives. ()

arrived today, will install tomorrow(Friday) and update, hopefully with a vid

You said it Matt, I'm biting my nails waiting for a PM from Pete that ours have arrived!!
-
ColorDMD arrived today.
Installation is easy and takes about 15 minutes - comes with step by step instructions just in case.
Well worth the $$$. ^^^
Roll on MM ColorDMD.....
-
-
That looks excellent. Thanks for sharing Replay. ^^^
-
That looks fantastic!! C'mon Pete, did our arrive? ^&^
-
Looks excellent .. the game is kinda reborn ^^^
-
it even looks better in the flesh. I really enjoyed playing that game. only problem is you end up wanting to watch the colour display while you are playing.
It was easy to install. But there was a minor mistake in the installation instructions, the instructions tell you you to unplug J604 and J605 on the AV board but if you disconnect J605 you not only disconnect the high voltage A.C.input for the old Plasma DMD you will also end up disconnecting the A.C. for the sound amp. So I removed F601 & F602 so the HV section is no longer live.
The colour dmds also have mounting holes for WPC and an option in the menu for WPC or WPC-95 configuration so if we are lucky there may also be some of these released for some the WPC titles $#$
if they ever release one for STNG I will be buying one for sure
-
This unit is awesome
It only took 15 minutes to install. Very simple
A colored display makes such a huge difference, the youtube clips do not do the display justice
When they do another run I will grab two more just to have colored displays in my other games
-
Huge thanks to PB Pete for making the trip over with the colour DMD. I was not planning to instal it until tonight so we could chat and play a few games, but he egged me on with "only take 15 minutes" until I was ready to pop and couldn't wait any more! Well it took us about five minutes because we didn't read the instructions with the benefit of Pete having already done his.
And the results - amazing!! We took turns playing a couple of games so we could really watch the animations - saw some things I didn't realize were in the mono-colour version. I am not big on mods, but this really does add to the game experience. I was thinking about how CV with the under glass DMD would really benefit. Will be interesting to see what Stern does to catch up, even our old B/W's are going LCD!! :)
-
Sounds like a great improvement, look forward to checking it out one day *%*

For any AFM owners who missed out on the first run of these, there will be another lot ready for sale in the next week or so.
The MM ColorDMD release date has been pushed back to sometime in Winter (our Winter) as a result.
The rumoured third title TAF should be out late this year.

Colordmd are showing back in stock (again) at the colordmd website for AFM.

Great Thread Guys
I just picked up an AFM
This looks greart
Are they worth the money??
Would you buy more of them??

Hey Richo,
Great pickup on the AFM - the best BW title hands down (if not "best game eva"). ^^^
ColorDMD:
Yes it is worth it even at the $399 price tag.
Place your order through Bay Area Amusements as the ColorDMD manufacturers won't ship direct to Aus.
Shipping about $50 from memory.
Would I buy more? Just waiiting on the MM version being released in August. #@#
Two things for you to do:
Add yourself to the AFM wait list here to be notified when another run is complete:

Stock for both MM and AFM came online for sale last night - and sold out 20 minutes later.
-
I know that sucks for anyone that missed out on getting one (this time) but I think that's awesome.
All that means is that these guys will be making more for AFM, MM, and many more titles.
Obviously there is a huge demand for this product.
I don't have an AFM, MM or Addams (at the moment) but I will happily buy one for every one of my machines.
-
Great way to keep the price at its maximum, low supply, huge demand. Why dont they produce double or triple > they would have safe numbers to produce from many emails detailing interest, That way they wont over produce. !@#
I can see why people are buying the displays even if they havent got the game yet. As long as prices dont come down alot, the stradegy might work out. They sure do look great these colur dmds.
-
Great way to keep the price at its maximum, low supply, huge demand. Why dont they produce double or triple
I think you'll find these are hobbyists who can't risk bank rolling a large run with the risk of sitting on stock. Who would have known the demand would be as high as indicated? Good on them for seeing this through (I love seeing the AFM dots on my game in colour). I'm not criticising them for going this route, it's sensible and ensures continued growth of this hobby business.
-
With them teaming up with a big seller (like Marco or Bay Area) u think they would produce more, or at least have more serious numbers from their sales outlets to increase the run of new dmd s available. * Time to hit the bank manager with some order sheets and get some more capital.
I wonder how many they are releasing at once, is it 50 or 500 ?
-
* Time to hit the bank manager with some order sheets and get some more capital.
And potentially be left with stock and debt. I'm sure they have thought this through, they are obviously pretty smart.
-
No. If u have paper orders in hand from Marco/Bay Area for say 300 units, and you produce 300 units, then u wouldnt have stock left over or any debt unless you didnt have the capital upfront, which is why anyone who is underfunded could approach their bank for capital. When you have run your own business for over 20 years like I have, its the first thing u would do to meet the gap between total under supply and having far too many customers waiting for stock which they cannot get.
With a potential capital injection from their bank, all outstanding orders would potentially be fullfilled. It still sounds like they are under capitalised if they are only producing a fraction of what the public are trying to order. Selling services, and not product, is a different business. The problem with being totally understocked, is that customers try repeated times to purchase, and when they cant get the product, they give up meaning you dont get their dollar. Undersupply is just as bad as over supply. Its not smart to have nowhere near the product to fullfil orders.
-
Yeah, I know how it works...... :tumble:
I just look on the positive side and I am presuming they also know how it works, and have made the very sensible decision not to trade on promises and/or other people's money. Some like to work without debt and reduce the risk to negligible. Doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing.
-
The fact is that there is still a major supply problem. Something isnt right somewhere. Its not how I would be doing it at all.
-
One Color DMD arriving next week
Thanks for your help Reuben
Loving AFM #*#
-
I think the first run was 100 units
The second run was double that, 200
Third run doubled that again
Knowing that most pinheads are traditionalists, I am a little surprised by the demand
But now they know the market . When it comes time for Addams family they will probably start at 1000 units
-
The fact is that there is still a major supply problem. Something isnt right somewhere. Its not how I would be doing it at all.
The fact is they are doing it their way, have produced a great product, and it is in demand. End of story.
-
I know how it works.
I think we can have different opinions on this one.
-
These guys are great! $#$
I emailed them asking if the new TAF ColorDMD required a TAF Gold eprom.
Randy Perlow himself emailed back the next day saying they have tested it with LX-3, L-7 and H-4. They all work, but H-4 is reccommended as it contains additional animations.
My good mate Anthony will sort out an eprom upgrade to H-4 for me as the extra graphics are very cool.
I'm on the B.A. waiting list and can't wait to get mine!

well done Pinprick. Shld work a treat on your Gold TAF.

El-timbo was around today and took a vid of the AFM in action so customers can see the effect for their AFM/MM/TAF restores. He's got a TAF there now (unbelievable job too) that I'd love to see the colour DMD in. Vids a bit long, but it does showcase the great job these guys did on the dot programming.
-
The problem with being totally understocked, is that customers try repeated times to purchase, and when they cant get the product, they give up meaning you dont get their dollar. Undersupply is just as bad as over supply. Its not smart to have nowhere near the product to fullfil orders.
I dont think so if people really want one they will be prepared to wait, as they have seen the footage of how great the item is.
The other thing to consider is, as these guys are only starting out, I would think constructing the boards etc, would be fairly hands on labour intensive as I'm sure they are doing most of the work themselves or at least overseeing the process. I'm sure they still have day jobs too as this venture will never make them rich, they are after all, hobbists at the end of the day, just a bit smarter than some of us <.>
-
I wouldnt like to guess about their working circumstances so i cant comment about their day jobs etc. I think they have made a great product.

Played Johns Star Trek Next Gen with the new colour dmd etc installed, what a HUGE difference. Made me want to order one straight away for my one.
If anyone has a Next Gen, and wants it to look like a million dollars, then the colour dmd that is available on the link n post above is worth every cent.
The colour dmd is very well suited to Next Gen cause the dmd displays are varied n many. It makes the game feel like something out of 2013 instead of 1993. Colours are bright n amazing compared to boring old orange. Bargain n Best mod u could possibly add.
-
Found a video on youtube. I didnt check the previous posts incase someone else has added it ? but here it is. Link below
Also, it is $399 plus $69.99 postage, making it apx $470 to purchase. Not cheap, but an amazing result.
(Look at it like a $300 spend only, if u need another std dmd display for another machine cause u can keep the original from the Next Gen for another game or sell it etc)

The SIGMA display will be available for play in the Elevation Games booth along with the full ColorDMD lineup including Attack from Mars, Medieval Madness, The Addams Family, and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Special thanks to Marc Oradat for making this happen!
Randy Perlow will present a seminar at 7:30pm Saturday, March 16 which will highlight the company's products, technology, and evolution. Randy will also discuss how games are colored and give a glimpse into the company's future direction. We hope you can join us!
If you are interested in the new SIGMA display, please join our mailing list or update your product notification preferences on our mailing list at

Good to hear, but I would buy Homepins LED display
Color DMD is good for a multicolor display
but as a single color, the brightness just is not there
Homepins LED DMD will be plenty bright enough

Looks good, I like when the full screen goes blue for the awards.
Interesting they did Wh20 before TZ, Wh20 is getting to be a very popular title nowadays *%*
I had a feeling they had not done TZ yet, on the website home screen it only showed a black and white TZ. In the video it shows the TZ with the sigma display with the emulated CRT scan lines not a colourDMD

Anyone here ordered a colour dmd into australia? if so who did you purchase it through?
-
Have ordered 4 - 2 MM, 1 AFM and 1 TAF.
Went through Bay Area Amusements for the MM, Planetary Pinball for the AFM and direct through the ColorDMD website for the TAF. All arrived safe and sound.
Not much difference in shipping between them - around $70 mark insured.
It will also depend on who currently has stock of the version you want.

Get an account signed up at all 3 websites if you haven't done so already - the FIRST RUN of every colordmd released so far has always sold out very quickly (and it is usually a 2-3 month gap before the next run)
My experience:
Colordmd has the most stock on hand but also the most traffic competing for one so can be hard to time it right to throw one in your cart with everyone else trying to add one to their cart at the same time.
BAA - has limited stock but better chances of securing one.
Planetary - even more limited in stock but it is the site that just about everyone overlooks/forgets about at the time so it is much easier to just log in, throw one into your cart and you are done. Hint Hint #@#
Also, the time zone factor - release times are US and they have always been late night early morning releases for Aus time (past midnight). So set your alarm clock! ^^^

awesome! thanks for all the info!

Just got this email from Color DMD, Just thought i would drop it here for anyone interested
May Production Release Announced!
ColorDMD Displays is excited to announce our May Production Release for Thursday, May 2 at 8:30AM PST! We are pleased to release two new products for the ColorDMD platform.
SIGMA - An advanced single-color cisplay featuring customer selection from 49 different color hues and 3 different display effects including classic dots, HD upscaling, and scan lines. SIGMA is compatible with WPC/WPC95 games.
White Water - Our 5th multicolor display since our first product release in April 2012!
We recently announced that beginning with our May release, all ColorDMD displays will support customer software conversions among any of our supported library of SIGMA and multicolor ROMS.
Unlike prior releases, the standard shipping configuration for all ColorDMD products in our May release will be the new SIGMA ROM, as demonstrated on Twilight Zone at the Texas Pinball Festival earlier this year. Product descriptions in our store and support pages will be updated with links to download firmware for easy conversion from the standard configuration to any of our supported multicolor ROMs.
Previously sold displays are also eligible for software conversion, but require request of a new product key from our website. An upcoming announcement in May will provide instructions on how to request an updated product key for your display.
Thank you for your continued support!

Chillax, AB. ()
Based on the last releases they will both show up once Rick (the owner of both websites) updates it later on.
He usually makes a post on rgp as well just after doing so, so you can check there as well.
If you are really keen just keep checking at regular intervals today and you might get lucky with an early website update, but especially tonight as it gets closer to the "official" release time.

was it hard to update the ROM?
No mate, just took a couple of steps- you need to take a photo of the info screen (accessed by pressing the right button on the board) and email them, then they email back the product code you need.
Download the new rom to a USB, add the new product code and done. Took me ten minutes I guess.

If the display has a sticker with "sigma" on the back of it then its just a matter of downloading the update but if it has the name of the machine on the sticker then you will have to do what nick said ( take a photo of the of the product code and email it to the suppliers)
One you have done this once ( taken a photo and so on)if you want to update it again or change it to use In another machine you just have to down load the new code and up date the code in the display

how much is shipping to australia per unit ?

About $60 but the dollar has dropped somewhat since I have ordered one a few months ago so might be slightly more now.
Take your pick of ordering direct from colordmd, bay area amusements or planetary pinball and see which one has the best shipping options.

Just my opinion like the colored DMD
BUT it just looks cheap .....
Dots are way to large ....

They look great in the flesh. Dots that size maintain the "feel" of the old DMD but bring new life to the animations.
I have one in a couple of games and they are my favorite mod.

I absolutely love the ColorDMDs. They breath new life into the visuals. If you go for LEDs etc, than it is a good (but expensive) addition.

Color DMD will soon have Stern kits and a rumoured Stern release
"Our plan is to offer a Stern installation kit that includes:
(1) A Stern power cable
(2) A 14-pin ribbon cable for connecting a Whitestar DMD controller board to the ColorDMD
(3) Mounting screws
For customers who want to move an existing display to a Stern game, we will also offer a limited number of updated mounting brackets. New displays will ship with the updated bracket. The bracket has additional mounting holes to fit SAM/Whitestar speaker panels and extra mounting holes for relocation of Whitestar DMD controller boards."

Whoo hoo
-
It looks like it may not be as clear as that:
Clue one:
It's from a designer we haven't covered before.
Name the designer!
then picture of the American Flag
Clue two:
"Guess what's coming next..."
The designer is still "in the game."
then the picture of the Simpsons
for the game players, 2 more hints and then a video being released tomorrow
-
I am a fool
From those clues it MUST be lotr
-
Had hopes it would be Tron, people spend so much modding that game you think they would have money thrown at them if they made a colordmd for tron...
ohh well, even the Sigma display set to blue would be a huge improvement..
-
I think the designers left to pick from are
Balcer, Borg, JPOP,
with WCS95 a potential from Jpop
-
Well borg is there and the designer of tron is still stuck 'in the game'... LOL.. I can dream...
-
there were 2 other clues but video out now - TOM
utoplay=1&rel=0
-
I played the colordmd in a creature and though it was well done and looked great, it still left me wanting a green dmd in the creature - just left me feeling the movie was from the era of black and white movies and that it wasn't quite suited with all the varied colours - or maybe that was just my odd perception of the colordmd in this particular pin.
-
Next title.

I wish they would do a machine I have, obviously I am not buying popular enough machines. lol.. They will probably announce fish tales the day after I drop it off to my brother...
I have two of their screens now with just with Sigma firmware, one is on judge dredd and the other on tron..
Judge Dredd set to yellow and scanlines looks awesome, as the graphics are animated (cartoon like) and so comes up looking great..
The ColorDMD Sigma display on Tron is a disappointment, though the Tron DMD animation looks crappy IMO anyway.. They didn't draw new graphics like Star Trek and most other machines, instead they simply took movie clips and made them look shitty.. IMO it is the only real problem with an otherwise great title, so nothing can really be done to fix it by anyone but Stern who obviously wouldn't..
Want to put one on my already far over engineered BSD, and maybe on Dr Who if I decide it will become a keeper/collection pin for me (pick it up tomorrow, have decals ready to go and thankfully the playfield had full mylar on it which once removed revealed a spotless playfield)..

I just placed an order for two of them, will go into a STTNG and a Creature, can't wait until they arrive.
Just spent a few minutes trying to find the edit button!
Got my package today and have installed one into my STTNG, should have been an easy job but my J-116 had 4 pins not three, anyone seen this before? Did the blank pin just not get cut off when they were being produced? I have never had the board out of this machine but it all looks to be original. Anyway after checking and then checking again that there should only be 3 pins I cut the other one off and plugged it all in. (cutting it off wasn't easy while it was still in the machine)
It looks great, will be good when someone else is playing it so I can pay more attention to the dots. My only regret is being out of the loop for a couple of years and missed our dollar being stronger against the USD.
-
My color dmd on my tron is amazing and I will definitely be getting another one. I wish they could do some colour roms for later sterns but I don't think they will release the rights for their dots to get the colour treatment. Bummer

AC/DC shipping now
Best one yet! ()
-
So the pricing for www.colordmd.com is $399 USA plus shipping.
At our lousy Aussie dollar and conversion rate, it's going to cost a bare minimum of $500 Aussie plus delivery which I am guessing will be at least another $100 to $150 with insurance etc etc.
At roughly $600 to $650 (or perhaps more) it's not a cheap exercise.
The only way to make it more affordable would be to sell the original Stern display perhaps if someone wanted to buy a red one instead of keeping the Stern orange one from earlier models.
I have seen a Fishtales with the color DMD and the colours really work well with the Playfield and cabinet colours of the Fishtales. Star Trek Next Gen also looks amazing. Definately the ultimate mod if u are prepared to spend the money.

Interesting, I had a funny issue in my Indy as well. The machine tilted during the mine cart video mode and the screen reverted to mono colour until I depowered the machine. A great product though.

They are all LCD screens. The colour DMD brand has a few different modes. Small dots, Large dots, and a smooth look as in the ACDC below. I like the large dot look myself in the 90's machines.

Cheers-they do tons of titles for B/W and Stern :) Randy was saying they have a team of contract guys that do the coloring so that's why titles are being released very quickly. $652 landed at my house not cheap but what is cheap when it comes to this hobby lol. In my eyes money well spent. Very easy to install took about 15-20 minutes.

looks great Pete, I'm moving away from the bolt on mods etc you can spend 100's on that stuff, Just the color DMD is fine with me now & you can move it along to the next purchase & up load the code, even if you sell your old dmd 100-200$ nice $$ kick start to the color unit ^^^
-
They look sensational.. clarity of image alone puts these way above any pixelated DMD and I cant for the life of me work out why they are not standard in a modern pinball machine.
I bought my wife an Acer notepad last year with large touch screen LCD for just over $500..
They are standard in ANY smart phone.. basic Samsung with touch screen can be got for $300 at any phone shop.
These should be cheap to buy!

They are all LCD screens. The colour DMD brand has a few different modes. Small dots, Large dots, and a smooth look as in the ACDC below. I like the large dot look myself in the 90's machines.
Thanks for the feedback, that's a nice lot of options. I really like the flat mode myself.
Wow, looks incredible peter! You must be stoked with it!
I played an ACDC in a pizza joint (name escapes me) in Sydney a while back with one of these LCD screens in it and if I had an ACDC I'd be whacking one of these in too. So much better than the standard DMD. Are the LCD screens available for another title?
Cheers-they do tons of titles for B/W and Stern :) Randy was saying they have a team of contract guys that do the coloring so that's why titles are being released very quickly. $652 landed at my house not cheap but what is cheap when it comes to this hobby lol. In my eyes money well spent. Very easy to install took about 15-20 minutes.
Agreed, money well spent. Best DMD era mod out there.

Looks great Peter, I'm sure it enhances an already fantastic experience playing this title. My guess this is still your most played and favourite in the line up?

looks like Lyman may be your man. I must admit I like a lot of the games he has coded. Dunno if its because he's a great player and so knows what people would like or maybe he's hard working and dedicated to the industry. He sounds like a nice guy too

Tron gets the treatment.

Looks like most of Stern's back catalogue will get a multi colour display before their current model has one.
Great look for such an innovative company. #@#

After trying the different features of the color DMD on my ACDC I've decided to leave it on color dots :) like the original DMD but color. I also like how it doesn't have the glare like the red screens. Its great how it gives you the options to change the display.
-
If you are after just dots, there is a new option called pin2dmd that will be far cheaper. It will require some diy though.
I have grabbed a couple and will be experimenting over the next little while.

plus CV in testing now with new 128x32 LED panels in order to fit the machine's DMD location.

Great, just I was planning to save money this year

Data East machines may now get some colour love without having to modify the speaker panel.

Some Colordmd advise, If you have one put a wide piece of tape over the connector between the PCB & the display. The plugs & sockets are incredibly soft & fragile. Mine was damaged because the cable hooked onto something ripping it out while changing a simple fuse. This cost me $160 to repair. BE WARNED tape is cheap.

Thanks for the heads up I will check next time I have them open.

anyone want to share costs for a new coloorDMD? Shipping is free for 3 or more units, instead of $68US, and it would only cost $20au to put in a satchel once here. saving of over $80au
-
Once you pay the GST the saving is lost
-
How is the saving lost? You have to pay gst even on one?
Makes no never mind to me as i'm registered for gst, but the $68 for shipping is saved and the gst is the same?
1 x dmd = $534.15 delivered inc the G
3 x dmd = $1369.50 delivered inc the g
= $456.50 each, a saving of $77.65US ($110au odd) per screen.
You're a nice guy Pete, but i'm glad you're not my bookeeper @@* *)*

Ended up just ordering 3 x Walking Dead sets, they will fit other machines as far as i can tell, but have extra standoffs etc to suit the older stern.
Will have two spare if anyone wants one at cost. Looks like about $680 posted to you.
If no-one here wants them i'll put them up for $700 on the book.
This is it in TWD, but the one below is with the smoothing or whatever it's called turned on in Simpsons machine

You may have to pay for customs clearance, and if they get nasty - duties. It may also clear without being noticed.

These look pretty cool! Anyone in here done it to a ST:TNG?
