Title: It's Coon Hunt time. That's Seeburgs coon hunt you racists
Post by: ddstoys on March 11, 2016, 03:02:27 PM: Hi guys had this one a while now decided it's time to make a start. And before you politically correct wankers start (if there's any on here) the game is from Anerica in 1954 shooting raccoons not from the 1800s in Australia.

Game was built in 1954 by Seeburg the jukebox manufacturers and game built my a jukebox company are mechanical pieces of moving art everything is over engineered.

This machine has 1 motor that moves two separate raccoons up l, down and from left to right and hidden Behind the tree. For those who havnt seen one this is what it should look like

Normally I like to keep games as original as possible but sadly many years stored in a shed hadn't been to kind to the old girl. Plus it had been painted burgundy at some stage in its life so I decided to give this one a full freshen up.

Me being a dumb ass forgot to take a photo before I ripped the fun apart but the barrel was rusted and the stock had years and years of battle scars

Here is the stripped rifle.

The gun stand and target unit are suggested to be between 25-50 feet apart not sure about you guys but I'd struggle to see the little raccoon at 50 feet lol

That's 2 coats hopefully it sees w little more than home use might give it a couple more while it's in pieces. Little bit sad that ive lost some of the definition in the back section tiny little ridges left well alone one quick coat and they were gone well not gone but enough to annoy me

Between the gun and the case is 5 core between the gun stand and the target is 7 core in a cotton type layer then a rubber coating? Not looking for exacts stuff just anything 7 core that's 10mm thick and fairly flexible and strong as you would see on any arcade shooting game gun? But with fairly chunky wires as the manual says the whole cable needs to be kept as the wires resistance is taken into the games design or something along those lines

I'd sent off all the shiney stuff to get replated ages ago (legs, coin mech casting and coin mech ). Got pretty excited when I removed the main plate and found some original red hopefully the flakes are big enough to get a close Color match

And this is why the games getting restored. I knew the paint was bad but not this bad. The video shows how bad some is the photo shows how much
Paint came off in about 10 minutes with a paint scraper well technically it was the small end of a steel ruler lol

I think you *need* to ensure those dints are visible - too "perfect" would look wrong anyway, needs its age to show (I tell myself that every morning when I look in the mirror).

Post by: ddstoys on March 19, 2016, 06:31:07 PM: More prep work on the cab waiting for glue to dry decided I'd have a go at the instruction plate.
This is aliminium with the writing etched in then painted again going for nice not new.

The glue residue was a bastard to get off and in a few spots had corroded the alloy.

Steel wool and windex to start removed what was left of the glue and levelled out the corrosion then went around the rest of it the same way till it all looked uniform. Once that was done got out the old buff wheel on the drill and slowly buffed it till it had a shine. I'll leave it as is for now once it's on the freshly painted game it might look like shit but I'm happy for now

Actual colors are undecided they will be Red with white inserts like the original pic at the start of the thread but exact colors I'm not sure on waiting for advice from other owners of the game

And tonight I dissasembled the credit mechanism for a scrub. It's only roughly assembled for now still a couple of items to do before I fully assemble it like replace that huge antique capacitor today's equivalent will be tiny in comparison. you should also be able to get bulk Magic Wipes, and big rolls of Chux wipes

Post by: ddstoys on April 12, 2016, 08:32:15 PM: Progress has stopped until I get the shiney bits back from the platers sadly. The rifle holster hangs out the bottom and cant be installed or test fitted till the legs arrive :(.

It was made from Moulded Masonite but from years of having a gun installed and removed it was pretty hammered. I've got it back into shape as best I could installed a steel sleeve inside where the barrel sits to help prevent more damage and coated the outside with a layer of fibreglass. I'm determined not to start the target unit until the gun stand is completely back together far too many pieces to get mixed up if I do both at once in the small space I have to work. Been helping a guy in the USA with measurements and photos so I in buried the main section here it's is

The inside of the door has a one piece curved cardboard artwork with the trees and the coon dog. The cardboard has been stappled to the door and is so dry and brittle I'm not going to risk damaging it. Post by: ddstoys on January 30, 2017, 03:00:19 AM: This projects been on hold for a while due the the unavailable space needed to respay the target section but had some down time with a stuffed neck and back decided that rewiring the gun stand cable was something I could do (but previously couldn't be bothered doing haha) So basically now I have the gun stand finished all the way to the target section.

New paint
New chrome
New cables

Also thanks to [MENTION=12190]wiredoug[/MENTION] who found the original Cashbox buried in a stack of crap at his factory the gunstands complete and working.

Which then got me tinkering with the internals. I tried a little bush engineering voltages were about right 30v decided to have a crack at making a replacement in theory it worked and mechanically it worked but wasn't strong enough. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170129/059757a015c264f0b683449ee0c89889.jpg)

After that's failed I started reading the manual and schematics seeing what else it was supposed to do and repaired the score lights, the player rating and the moon

You get 20 shots per game each hit scores a point 12 hits equals marksman 16 hits (I think) equals sharpshooter and 20 hits Equals complete mental blank..... sorry lol

Also everytime a raccoon is hit it's eyes light up is tail lifts and it drops down the tree while the moon lights up and so does the owls eyes while

After quarantine get some more and spray the cab if I don’t have enough,

I grew some balls and stripped the door and found some original paint that’s been covered since day one and wow just wow these games look like they were painted in candy apple red and the effort and quality of the build is amazing primer spray putty beautiful timber joinery. Damn I’d love to see a fully original one

I thinner it down in the tim ready to spray picked up the tin and it just slipped out of my hand as anyone knows me know I lost my shit cursing and swearing and trying not to smash things .

Luckily my neighbour heard my hissy fit and when I rang the paint shop and found out they were open he drove down and got me another litre what a legend,

The cabinet and door still need to be cut and polished at some stage if needed but atleast it’s at the stage I can put all the fragile bits back together

It now has the glass back in and some of the cardboard artwork one major piece of artwork left but it needs to be delicately cleaned before going back in good job for tomorrow while waiting for paint to dry
It’s a big bastard with the topper on I don’t think it will fit under the roller door
