If you don't remember the 70s then you were on drugs.
If you remember playing pinball in the 70s you were having a good time.
If you don't remember anything,  then read about it here,

 $.$ and  %)% to Aussie Pinball !

An interesting problem. I've heard of NEW IN BOX Stern owners replacing the factory balls after a week. But this is not due to rust ! Sounds like you were sold second hand balls - which is common unfortunately.

I buy from RTBB ;

These are very good for all pinball machines EXCEPT games with magnets, as these balls cause havoc when magnetized ! But they retain their shine, and they won't be rusted when you receive them !

I bought some from Pinballlife about 18 months ago and they went rusty after a few days.
All of the ones I have bought from Pbresource have been good.
As an experiment I polished up some old pinballs (70's, 80's vintage?) from machines I bought and sat them in the shed unprotected, so far none of them have rusted.

I use Bling balls or the high gloss Pinball Life balls. Both have a great finish and last. No rust issues at all.

just btw could the amount of humidity of where the balls are attribute to the problem? I know I had a problem with ramp flaps on a new ramp that developed rust marks while I was in a rental house during a build. I put it down to the ducted evaporative cooler. we never had one and obviously we had it on too long and too high.
Still loving my Metallica Premium

I replaced my Stern balls from day one with bling balls and they look great and have lasted for ages.
